Photographer's Note

Every year, Covid free, Plympton have a History week which complements the History month that is held in Plymouth.
And each year this group 'The Age of Chivalry', a medieval re-enactment group come for the weekend to share their knowledge of the time, and to re-enact
a display(s) of sword fighting.

From their facebook page:- "The Age of Chivalry is a family friendly medieval society based in Plymouth and the surrounding area.
The focus of the society is to provide a colourful, entertaining and educational display.
It covers the medieval period during the reign of Edward III 1327-1377."

"Medieval Europe (1000-1500) is often remembered and imagined as a chivalric civilisation, a time when men were courageous and courteous, ladies were fair and respected and the clash of arms was also an embodiment of Christian piety."

Three pictures of a part of the re-enactment.
It was a warm afternoon, so the men in their heavy costumes must have been overheating!

The rope was their to prevent any children getting too close to the display.

Hello Jean,
A great action photo of these two medieval knights in the middle of their fight. Good inclusion of the spectators in the background as well. All their costumes look fantastic.

You were blessed with a sunny day which shows off the colours well, especially the man in yellow. Unfortunately the two ladies have had their attention diverted elsewhere.

Hello Jean,
What a perfect opportunity for colourful photos full of action. I just wonder if the swords could actually cause injuries if not handled properly. I suppose amherst.edu didn't mention that in the chivalric medieval Europe people usually suffered from terrible toothache until they died at an age of 35. ;-)

Hi Jean,It is always interesting to witness these re-enactments of the medieval past that are resumed after the 2 years of Covid, a nice way to make the story easily understand to children but also to meet for a definitely worldly event in a city like this, 3 beautiful photos taken with excellent timing and perfect quality ... and it was not easy due to the fast movements! Hi Jean,
Very difficult job to capture the knights in nice poses. I think you managed to catch the poses but then sometimes the sharpness is a bit off. This is usually too challenging type of photography to me but of course being in a place like this and holding my camera already it is awkward not to try.

The swords look sharp and real too, so it was probably prudent to rope off the reenactment area from children, and even adults too. Good sharpness and lighting and well framed and composed. Tfs!

Quite wonderful event with a lot of action. I guess the clothes are more colourful than they really were in the middle ages. You have good timing with the sword high up. Nice to see those young ladies too.

excellent moment of these two men fighting as in the medieval times. nice other details as these ladies watching ahead. anyway I ever guess the real scenery should be much more dirty.
