Photographer's Note
Village of Rasiglia - Foligno (PG)
It rises near the ancient Via della Spina, important since Roman times for commercial traffic between the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian and in particular between Rome and the Ancona area. The first information on the Community dates back to the early thirteenth century and can be found in the archive of the Abbey of Sassovivo. It is mentioned as "curtis de Rasilia". In the fourteenth century, also to defend the road, some fortifications were built, among which the Castle of the Trinci should be remembered, in a strategic position for the control of the Menotre valley. In the Prior Archives of the section of the State Archives of Foligno there is the Statute of Damage Given of Rasiglia. The document, made up of 25 parchment papers, can be traced back to the mid-15th century. In the first half of the seventeenth century, when its military importance diminished, Rasiglia established itself for craft activities (mills, factories) thanks to the water power coming from the Menotre river. The most important activities were the Angeli mill, the Silvestri mill, the Accorimboni mill and wool mill, the Tonti wool mill and remained active throughout the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century; after the Second World War, despite the petition of the inhabitants, the wool mills moved to the city; the last closed around 1980. In the pre-war period Rasiglia was still very rich in commercial and artisan activities: it had two wool mills, at least eight mills, four banks and a post office. Taking advantage of the power of water, mills and spinning mills of particular importance flourished: the manufacture of fine wool blankets made with special yarns was particularly in demand even outside our region. There were four bank branches, one of which was a branch of the Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno, opened since the early years of the last century, and from 1919 to 1929 the Cassa Rurale di Rasiglia. There was also a small convent of nuns, kindergarten and elementary schools. During the war period, some works of the aeronautical industries of Foligno, damaged by bombing, were transferred to Rasiglia. At the end of the war, absolute poverty, few job opportunities, the closure of industrial activities pushed people to leave the country and migrate to the big cities; most of the inhabitants moved to Foligno. Thus began a slow and inexorable decline for Rasiglia. The population which in 1940 was equal to 350 souls in 1985 the population was reduced to 168 souls; in 2010 it counted 74, also considering the inhabitants of small hamlets such as Ascolano, Fabriano, etc. that gravitate towards Rasiglia. Severely damaged by the 1997 earthquake, Rasiglia is today (2018) almost completely renovated. It is still the seat of the agricultural community, established on 7 July 1912.
Rasiglia is a place lost in time, in symbiosis with water, an essential element in the past for every work activity and in everyday life. The water, coming from the thunderous source of Capovena, crosses the entire town with many branches and was used as a driving force to power mills, fullers and other activities. The town still retains the typical features of the medieval village, gathering in an amphitheater structure, characterized by the waterways that cross it, making it unique and fascinating.

Buongiorno Silvio,
The paintings on the wall most probably show daily-life scenes from the town's early days, but the artificial cascade grabs most attention when looking at this corner.
I can imagine the sound of the water echo against the old walls.
Beautiful corner on picture, saluti.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
This closer view is wonderfully detailed and, though a still photograph, insinuates a distinct sense of movement. I like how you have strongly featured the wide expanse of water descending from the weir, meeting the unbridled water from the channel; each is on its own diagonal path.
The textural details from the building behind are very sharply captured.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Silvio,
This is very similar to earlier photos from this place, but I can see there was less water this time than in the photo from 2018 you hade shown twice before. It is still a good place for photos, but maybe you should not show exactly the same view several times, when there hasn't been any great change.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Silvio,
You have captured well the power of the waterfall. The point of view is showing the details of the building. The light is giving good colors output. Have a nice day.

Buongiorno Silvio,
The colour and b&w paintings affixed to the bg wall add interest. Good motion blur of the cascading water. Wonderful tight framing and sharpness. Tfs!

Ciao Silvio,
you have a lovely collection of photos of little passages with small streams, waterfalls.
The stones of the walls are so rough and contrast with the smooth flow of the water.
Very well seen and captured,
M

Ciao Silvio,
Splendid narrative of Rasglia past and present. The capture well illustrates the driving force which once made the village a prosperous place.
Warm regards again,
