Our Lady of Nativity, in Safira, a photo from Evora, South

Photographer's Note

This is my first post of Safira, an abandoned village, in the Alentejo.
This is part of what's left of the 16th century church devoted to Our Lady of Nativity. The ruins of the church, houses and cemetery are still there but the village was abandoned several decades ago, when the inhabitants left to the city and nearest villages.

Immagini che toccano il cuore, � sempre triste vedere la distruzione, quello a cui inesorabilmente sono sottoposte cose e persone, e la tua foto ne � un'ottimo esempio.
Caratterizzata dai forti contrasti tra il colore dell'architettura, il cielo azzurrissimo e la forte ombra, eccellente qualitativamente, forte nel suo significato, mi piace molto.

Me gusta mucho la imagen de esta inglesia abandonada! es algo original y creativo..los colores, la claridad y la nitidez son preciosos..el cielo azul complementa muy bien el conjunto..magnifica captura! me ha gustado mucho.. enhorabuena!

the same church of your previous post, I like this much more beautiful symmetry and the management of light, a spectacular sky contrasts beautifully with the pink color of the church, a real shame to see it in ruins,

Hi Ana,

You're capturing well this ruin of the church by a good composition and very excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the red wall of both sides and the symbol of a front church. Although it is ruined, it tastes as the whole and it is deep. And, good color contrast of this architecture and blue sky.

Hi Ana,
this is a beautiful and perfect composition.like the textured decayed wall around the windows of the old age architecture.
All the elements are here and everything is so harmoniously balanced. Executed with your usual accomplished technique and full of wonderful and captivating light. I love it!

wonderful sunlight and bright colours in contrast with the ruins and desolation of the old church. Superb point of view, depth and clarity. The shadow adds more drama to the picture and a good graphic effect, the light is managed skillfully. The colours are very bright and natural. To think that long ago people wore their best clothes and lived there some of the most important moments of their lives...Great photo!

Urbanization & the drift of rural people to big cities seems to be a global phenomenon. Good sharpness & perspective with a wonderful warm cold color contrast between the pinks walls of the abandoned roofless church & the blue sky. Tfs!

Hi Ana,

You POV really shows well the abandoned atmosphere, I would be a little worried to walk in here with all the cluster of fallen woods. YOu managed teh strong light well betweent the shadow and light. Very good Symetrical POV and composition.

This abandoned church has made a lovely photographic subject. The symmetry and dark shadow gives a lot of atmosphere. The pink tones on the walls are well contrasted with the deep blue sky. A very striking and well taken photo.

Hello Ana - I have a fascination for decaying buildings. How sad that such an important building in the lives of past village inhabitants has fallen into disrepair. I always wonder about what these old places have witnessed about the people and their lives. I guess its a case of ashes to ashes and dust to dust. The bell tower stand mutely against a deep blue sky, the pink walls bare testament to neglect. A wonderfully poignant shot. Warm regards Rosemary

Ol�, amiga Ana,
esta imagen inspira un poco de tristeza, porque es una pena que la arquitectura de esta iglesia y del pueblo est� en un estado tan ruinoso. Pero la gente se fue del pueblo para buscar una vida mejor a la ciudad, y 駸ta es la consecuencia, que has captado en una foto magn凬ica.
Me gusta el equilibrio entre la luz y las sombras, la perspectiva de l匤eas y la simetr僘 del encuadre.
El contraste con el azul del cielo es impresionante.
Un buen trabajo.

Hello Ana!

This is a beautiful shot of the ruined church of the previous photo. The fa軋de of the church still stands very nicely in tact. I like the symmetrical arrangement of this image, which reflect very effectively the type of space involved in the architecture. The wonderfully blue sky takes away the sadness often associated with a ruin. Nevertheless, it is very disappointing to see the end of another fine architecture. The situation surrounding the abandoned church along with the village and the inhabitants draws my attention to its reality. The similar situation can be seen here where I am at the moment. But I truly like the image; it is a very compelling representation of the church, which stood proudly here once. I wonder if the original inhabitants ever think of their church and their home village these days.

peccato per lo stato di abbandono in cui versa questa chiesa, con il tetto crollato.
tecnicamente hai ben ripreso la scena creando una buona prospettiva centrale che dalla chiesa va verso l'azzurro del cielo.

I like how you've presented this church, or what is left in a fine symmetry, although I feel a little sad to see it is abandoned! There are good contrasts between the lights/shades and the faded pink walls & the deep blue sky.
