Just a nice street, a photo from Harjumaa, West

Photographer's Note

From the old town of Tallinn, Estonia.

So what makes this view special? The answer is: nothing at all. I just wanted to show a nice street with a pleasant ambience. I was coming from where some people are standing. Having walked past the restaurant I decided it looked nice, so I stopped, turned around and snapped this photo. Then I turned back, walked a few more metres and took this photo.

It may look like almost everyone is watching me, but I think it is a pure coincidence that most persons happened to be facing my direction. I was reasonably properly dressed, didn't make any strange sounds and only stopped here for a few seconds. ;-)

la tua vita � trascorsa facendo il giornalista in giro per il mondo e ritengo che sia rimasta in te l'abitudine di osservare in maniera molto approfondita il mondo che ti circonda cercando di coglierne anche le pi� piccole sfumature.
Per cui a te appare naturale scattare una foto anche di persona attorno ai tavoli di un ristorante perch� � una rappresentazione vera della vita che ci circonda.
Questa tua particolare caratteristica ritengo che sia un vantaggio perch� ti permette di cogliere momenti di naturalezza che a molti altri sfuggono.

This is in fact Katariina K臺k (St. Catherine's Passage). We had a meal in this very restaurant, though we couldn't sit outside in -20 degrees in February! On the right are a series of tombstones incorporated in the wall.

Now come on. I'm sure you were wearing a swimming costume and a bowler hat, and were making loud donkey brays.

So, the Swedes are even noticed when they're properly dressed and they don't consciously demand attention :) Perhaps everyone thought 'that's the guy who went to Afghanistan and India in the '70-s.'
A beautiful and lively streetscene in a town with lots of character.
The image shows us sociability and entertainment into the decor of a beautiful, historic city.

Hello Gert,

The cobblestoned streets, and the logarithmic spirals of the bracket holding the sign are especially appealing for me. I imagine this is in the old city part of Tallinn.

I saw for the first and only time in late June 2010, and loved it. There was great optimism in the air especially with the increasing numbers of visitor, and the improving economy. Later when we met friends in Stockholm, they reported that Tallinn had become a favorite place for young visitors. Did you perceive any anxiety after Mr. Putin's adventures in the Ukraine?

Beautiful photo of a pleasant street, nicely framed with tree branches - I didn't have to look at the date to realise the image must have been taken in May.
At first I was going to say that they were probably looking in your direction because you were taking photos. But it's not exactly an unusual activity in the streets of old Tallinn. Having had a closer look I come to a conclusion that the group of people at the top of the street is waiting for the guy in the middle distance and looking at him. :)

Yes, I agree: this really is a lovely little street with a pleasant and relaxing ambience with people eating, walking and going quietly about their own business amidst lovely old architecture. A lovely air of unhurried contentment amongst these people too.

Hello Gert - Plenty of charm in this old street. I think the people furthest from your lens are actually looking at the man who is walking towards them. He's slowing them down because he's so busy on his mobile phone ;) Now the people in the FG... well it's really only you that can explain what it is that fascinates them so.

Hi Gert, The same restaurant is on my photo on TE from katharine Kaik. I wanted to show you in WS very similar picture but in winter version, without the tables and people but the photos are at home:).
Yesterday we had a fine day although tiring because of the heat. We left all Japanese and Chinese in Prague, here we didn't see them, strange, isn't it?

I really appreciate your concern! Not everything is in order with my computer yet but I can work on it again and am very glad about it.
It was great to see the workshop photo once again, and I like your main post very much for the picturesque and antique daily life setting as well as for the peacefulness of the scene. I think that many of us have learned to appreciate this aspect of life in recent years and not take it too much for granted.
