An Unexpected Subject, a photo from Lancashire, England

Photographer's Note

Hello Everyone,

Sometimes, a feature or display just catches your eye and though you hadn't intended to photograph it, it becomes the most important thing in view.

That is what happened here!

My friend and I eye had just found this empty table with free chairs, where we could stop and enjoy a tea and cakes!

The sun was creating reflections on the table and duplicating the colourful candle holders. Whilst others were busy photographing the flowers, this was a must photograph for me! I was happy that the lady's hat made a third feature in the composition.

The photograph was taken during the Open Garden Scheme visit.

I will add a second photograph from that day as a workshop.

Hi Bev,

This is an original composition. The point of view is showing the details of the reflections and of the hat. The light is giving good colors output. Well done, have a nice day.

Hi Bev,

An unintended still life, with punchy light contrasts, good sharpness and superb reflections. The woven pattern of the back of he chair reflected in the glass table adds repetition, although it might be more difficult to clean than a flat surface. Tfs!

Hello Bev,
This could be described as a 'still life' photo, but with a touch a trompe l'oeil and a pinch of surrealism. It's slightly confusing to grasp what is real and what is a reflection, but that's the fun of this kind of photos. The candle holders are bound to grab everyone's attention, no matter what, and the hat is a fine detail too. The WS is nice, and the version I would have expected you to post, but you made the right decision to think outside the box.

The unexpected is always an exciting subject, photography-wise of course, Beverley.
Or... someone forgot a hat and you aimed to publish a flyer or a poster so someone come and collect his/her lost hat...

A good pair and the main one especially with the colour and reflections. The hat plays a good cameo role as well.

It took me a while to realise that I am looking at the reflection of these glass jars...It appeared as there are two curved surfaces in each jar....Such a sharp image with great PoV....

Hello Beverley,
A very nice composition with the two lights, one green and one red. Their reflections are very attractive as well. The hat is a good addition in the background of the vertical composition.

Excellent observation and realisation.
There are reflections of the blue sky and a plant on the glass table as a bonus.

Hi Bev,

A bold composition with the bright colours of the candle holders standing out against the more muted colours of the background. The hat does add to the photo. I like the photo of the rhododendrons too, always a good subject for photos.
