Vallo di Nera

Beautiful castle overlooking the Valnerina, between its narrow streets is still surrounded by the magic of the Middle Ages.

The urban layout is compact, with the typical structure of the castle hill: the original nucleus built around the square of San Giovanni Battista, the highest point of the hill, lie flat and steep climbs ring roads. The first fortified settlement were later joined the fifteenth-century village of Santa Maria, which forms the second city wall, built to include the monastic settlements, and the later sixteenth of Casali village, built in the period of maximum population growth, along the roads of access to the Castle.

The castle walls made of stones and rendering looks unique in today's world of brick and plastering or concrete.

I like the texture and the earthy colours of the castle.

Another good example of ancient town built on a steep hill. Stairs, arches and walls make a magnificient 3D combination. All brown colours create very harmonous result.

questa composizione mi piace pi� di molte altre, oltre agli archi (tra l'altro imperfetti), c'� la linea del parapetto che prosegue con le scale che contrappone le linee spezzate con quelle curve degli archi.

Reckon that in this medieval town there many stairs to climb and narrow alleys to surprise a visitor, Silvio.
Found a nice corner up-stairs, down-stairs and out-way further down ahead.
Prevailing same brown stones on the houses, the arch is a wonderful object combined.

Hello Silvio,

It sort of reminds me of Matera with the stone steps, arches and pathways. Nice symmetry of the balustrade with the wall at left. The arch frames a nice glimpse of the bg forest. Tfs!

Where's the lady wearing the red dress? haha, thats what this photo needs, in fact its what every photo needs :)

so this is a section of the Castle? I thought it was part of the town, but i guess not. there are 3 elements which stand out so well, the #1, the light hanging on the wall, and the arched door. Not to forget all the textured stone work.
so much history here. lots to like in this composition.
