Photographer's Note
After one of the most freezing nights in Dutch history,I woke up early to bring my wife to work
because the roads were very tricky that morning, she was not in the mood to drive herself and later I
found out she was right..
After I dropped her at work,I was ready for a drive and some pictures, the circumstances were excelent,it
was foggy, but also clear with sunshine, but above all
it was extremely,extremely cold.
I had to open the doors of the car with anti-freezing
spray because I just couldnt open them.
It was pretty dangerous in some places,it was misty
I could see only for a few metres, while the road was full of snow and very slippery, the frozen water was about 3 metres next to the car.
I came to my favourite mill near Woubrugge, but was unable to drive to it,the small dike leading to it was full of ice and snow,I would slide off into the frozen canal
So I dropped the car next to a small farm and started to walk over the dike, the sun was rising,it was hazy as well,it must have been well below minus 20 overthere.
I felt pain in my fingers even with gloves,I had to take them off to operate my camera to take the photo
but my hands were shaking after a few seconds,brrrrr...
I never felt so cold in my life,brrrrr...quickly back to the warm car, hope its going to start again ;+]]

Hi Jan
really a very moody and seasonal shot
One can feel the cold just at looking at the image
I like that and you've been very fortunate with this association of the haze and the light of sunrise
Bravo
have a nice evening

Hallo Jan,
Vele groeten, Paul

After the global warming, are we now entering the Ice Age of modern times?
Some articles say so, some believe that these are all paranoia. But surely, the starting of the new Ice Age bears and will continue to bear great atmospheric shots with unique mist/light compo like this one.
Compliments,

Hello Jan - I loved your story and I admit that I'm not sure that I would have managed to get the shot! Winter looks pretty but being out in freezing mist and snow is another story. Your determination paid off. The light is warm and subtle and I like the way the mist has diffused the light and colours adding a soft and silent atmosphere which you have captured perfectly. Not even a trace of the shakes! Best regards rosemary

Hello Jan
Love the delicacy of the shot, the softness is beautiful, I don't envy your weather but the shot proves that the hardest conditions really provide more atmospheric photographs.
Great story to go with this.

Hallo Jan,
Vriendelijke groeten,
Robert

Hello Jan,
So beautiful and atmospheric photo under these foggy conditions. A windmill is always a nice theme to take a shot but now with the fog you made the difference. Excellent winter moment!

Hi Jan,
I like a lot the effect created by the mist on this frozen landscape. The windmill on the dike, the frozen canal, the chill atmosphere, and the blue sky that is a bit transparent across the mist, they are a few fantastic elements for to create a harmonic and very attractive composition.
A beautiful work.

Hi Jan,
The winter mood and extreme cold condition is very well depicted in the shot. Great quality photo even under such light condistion when every thing seem not clear because of the fog. Thanks for the photo, I wouldn't want to be there myself in this cold :)

Hoi Jan,
Over heiig gesproken.
Groet, Jan

You created a fine & different image of the Dutch iconic windmills. Thanks for braving the chill to show us this wonderful spectacle. The pastel hues in the sky looks delightful through the mist, which makes it look like a fine silk curtain. Fine work!

Hi Jan,
This is a lovely photo taken in the mist of a snowy weather.
It must take a lot of skill to manage such bad weather conditions.
But your result is perfect. Everything is very sharp despite the haze.
And so typically Dutch !
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Marie-Louise.
