Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,
I hope I won't bore you with a second posting of the packhorse bridge at Wycoller.
Please click on The Bridge to the Hall to see the photograph in larger format. It is worth the effort.
This is such an interesting feature that I hoped to show you the flat stones upon which you walk. Well, I say flat but after centuries of use, the stones are worn and shaped. Until this century, most of the traffic would have been from people wearing clogs and, of course, until the beginning of the last century, there would have been lots of ponies or donkeys crossing the bridge.
The reason that the walls are so low is so that the loads on the pack ponies would not get caught on the walls.
For further details of the bridge, please click here to see my last post.
In the background, you will be able to see what remains of Wycoller Hall. Today Wycoller Hall stands in ruins but this 16th century hall is believed to have been the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Charlotte Bronte痴 novel, 遷ane Eyre.
I will add another view of the bridge as a workshop.
I wish you a very enjoyable weekend, Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
Another nice and interesting capture in your gallery.
Taken with very good pov and sharpness as well as ligth managements.
Nice framed.
Bu the way, the green moss covering the Stones is a perfect evidence of the fact that the weather there is still not polluted.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Hi Bev,
This mossy old bridge is truly photogenic. Stones have obviously moves a little since the time of construction, but it still stands the times. Excellent panoramic framing.

Hello Bev,
Slippery when wet? This doesn't look like a suitable shortcut home from the pub on a dark and rainy evening, considering the condition of the stones. But from a safe distance the bridge looks very pretty and picturesque, not least thanks to the moss covering the walls. The ruin of Wycoller Hall is a perfect complement to the view, partly because you balanced the composition so well. The WS is also well taken and informs us about the recent weather conditions.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley,
The old bridge seems as challenging crossing with its stones that already show the teeth of times upon, and shining moss in bright green gave beautiful tone to the photo.
A careful walk would take you to the ruins and the surrounding park which has lot's of winter colors.
Wish you a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Beverley, another excellent pair of shots from Wycoller.
This point of view shows the bridge with all its' irregularities, and yet it is still standing. Testament to whoever built it.
Excellent presentation.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Hello Beverley,
A great photo of this beautiful, old and very mossy bridge. You placed it so well in the foreground. The old hall, or its ruin, is very well seen in the right hand side backdrop as well. The light created a wonderful atmosphere.

Hi Beverley
Another shot of an interesting looking place. Like the composition and the detail with plenty of texture of the old bridge. You've caught that lovely patches of green moss and great how it leads to the interesting ruined building. A very pleasing scene well exposed and composed, Congrats
Best regards

Bev Bev Bev
I just HAD to add this to my favorite list!
When I saw the abandoned ruin in the bg I actually shouted out loud to myself "Oh My God". This is a must for me to visit, that building in the bg + the stone bridge...this is like a scene from the Lord of the Rings Movies...is this for real?
I don't even want to read the note because it would mean I have to stop looking at the photo haha. Ok, let me read the note. awesome, I want to visit this Hall, and cool info about the bridge being low on purpose so the load on the animals wouldn't hit it...that's brilliant. I'm so impressed with this one, maybe your best ever. cheers

Dear Beverley,
This one is another example of how we imagine the English countryside. A nicely done postcard, indeed.
Best Wishes,

Hello Bev,
The rustic old stone bridge adds superb linear perspective here leading the eye inexorably towards the bg ruined hall and hillside stairs. Good sharpness and those broken and tilted paving stones look to be in need of repair. Tfs!

What a lovely, atmospheric photo! There's a very great sense of serenity and stillness in the photo. One can almost hear the sound of the water and birds in the trees. Wonderful color, lighting and sharpness.
