Photographer's Note
This is another photo taken of an ice-covered Fyris River. The same perspective as my previous ice-covered photo, but in different lighting and weather.
The bridge is V舖tgtasp蚣gen, a narrow foot across the Fyris River in central Uppsala. It was a bridge in this place already in the 13th century. In a map from 1770 there was still a bridge here, but in a map from 1858 it was gone and replaced by ferry service. The present bridge was built in 1862. The bridge was called the Malin Bridge in those days which comes from Malin Grnbeck whose father Carl Eric Grnbeck donated money to the bridge.
The closed building on the right hand side of the river is V舖tgta Nation, A nation is a society for students at the University of Uppsala. V舖tgta Nation is a nation for students from the province V舖tergtland in the south western part of Sweden. There are 14 Student Nations in Uppsala. The student nations are almost as old as the University itself. V舖tgta Nation that was founded in 1639 has 1 200 members. It is one of the smaller nations at Uppsala. The Nation has extensive cultural activities including three choirs, a theatre club and an orchestra.
The next building is St. Lars Catholic Church. This building is actually not very old. It was built in 1985, but in the same style as, Imperfectum, an older building it replaced. The Catholic congregation in Uppsala has about 2 600 members from 70 different countries.
The building behind the Catholic Church is Olympen, a residential building which was built in 1853 and design by Johan Otto Larsson. The top floor was student housing. The four storey building has 16 windows at each floor.
Then Laboratory Chemicum, which was built by Uppsala University's chemical department in the 18th century. In 1738 the Academy Chancellor endorsed that a chemical laboratory was to be built, and in 1752 some land was purchased for this purpose. The building is one of the oldest university buildings in Uppsala and was built in 1752-53. The building was destroyed by a fire in 1766 but then repaired and provided with an extra floor designed by C J Cronstedt.
Almost totally hidden behind the Laboratory Chemicum there is a building named Anatomicum that was built in the 1850s. For about one hundred years it was the centre of medical education in Uppsala. Today such education takes place in the modern premises of Uppsala University Biomedical Center (BMC).
And finally the Pump house, once Uppsala waterworks, but now a museum. It was designed by architect Adrian Crispin Peterson and opened in 1875. In the past the Pump house provided the inhabitants of Uppsala with water, drains, gas, electricity and long-distance heating

Hello Ulf,
A very different view of what I've seen last summer but even in winter the beautiful red and yellow facades of the houses stand our strong.
The water of the Fyris River isn't frozen completey. So there's still space to swim for the many ducks.
Attractive composition.
Best regards, Paul

A very nice shot of the canal in winter with the typical red and yellow scandinavian houses
Very pleasant presence of the ducks on the frozen waters
Makes me feel "old" to read about the BMC, a place where I worked for a whole year in 80 !
have a nice WE

Hej Ulf,
I recognize this view by now but it is a perfect place for photos at different times of the day and year. This time the mild winter light is particularly good. With the snow, the ducks, the very few people walking by the fine old buildings this could be a scene from Fanny and Alexander. Even on this grey day you managed to capture fine nuances in the sky.

Hej Ulf,
A perfect picture of a very cold winter day. The dark and well dressed persons actually add to this feeling of unpleasant weather. A good POV with the long quay and the bridge across the half frozen water.

Hej Ulf,
The difference is striking and the beauty is of another, perhaops even more striking kind. The snow and ice again work very well here with the pastel colours. Your timing is great too with the 4 pedestrians well placed in the frame and those waterbirds add a nice graphical accent. Xcellent work & thanx for your very informative note too!
Have a good start of the week tomorrow,
Bert

Hi Ulf,
I see you are posting your beautiful winter photos before the season goes away for good.
Well, here it's definitely gone ! It's nearly like summer. Judging from the temperatures in Sweden , we'll have a shoick when we go tgo Stockholm next week ! Today, there is difference of 14ーC between here and there.
Oh well, cold weather makes for beautiful pictures like the one you are presenting here.
I love the composition with the bridge, the birds on the ice (Wonder what they are looking for there), the coloured house lined road and the two walkers who give life to the picture, together with the birds.
Best regards.
Marie-Louise.
