Leaving Port, a photo from Auckland, North Island

Photographer's Note

Some years ago the Mexican sail training ship 'Cuauhtemoc' visited Auckland. i was driving past the wharf when I noticed the ship was leaving with sailors standing on the rigging in a gesture of farewell. I had left my camera at home - I was still using a film camera then & I think I was out of film, but I had my wife's new digital with me. I took quite a number of shots of this ship leaving Auckland on a cool but clear Winter's day.

Good morning Neil,
A magnificent perspective on the big and impressive sail-boat, when the sailors performing a ceramonial show that it is a marvelous sight.
Excelent clarity and light upon, almost a silhouettes on the masts and ropes.
This ship visited Haifa port, Israel, last summer - but I had no spare time to go and see her.
Great photo presented.

Hello Neil,
though the lighting conditions were not very favourable, you made the best of it and caught the windjammer in a very attractive situation, thus conserving a scenery that is about to disappear forever.

a moment not usual nowadays, the graphic effect of the guys in the top of the boat structure is fabulous, a difficult job against the light. very nice compo. TFS.

Howdy Neil,

A very impressive classical sailing scene, which I have only seen in photos and drawings from the past.
The number of sailors must have been difficult to arrange with the immense rigging larger than perhaps any sailing vessel I have ever seen.
