BRUGES
First Sunday after lock-down, Bruges completely empty, no people on street
Begijnhof Ten Wijngaerde Bruges
My photo shows the access bridge, a photographer can see you below
The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaerde is the only surviving beguinage in the city of Bruges. There are no more beguines, but since 1927 there has been a monastic community of Benedictines, founded by Canon Rodolphe Hoornaert. In that year, the houses on the west side were also transformed and expanded into the Monasterium De Wijngaard, a priory of Benedictine parish sisters.
I hope you like it

Hello John,
You were not completely alone here. One man is watching the water, but he is standing in the shade of the trees and I hardly noticed him first in the darkness. Even then he adds a fine human presence to the photo. It's a really beautiful view of the pretty buildings, the old bridge and the fine reflections. The photo carries your trademarks of a balanced composition and fine colours.
Best regards,
Gert

Hallo John, the convent is surrounded by a canal and a tree-filled park. The swans enjoy that waterway. An old bridge leads to the building. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hallo John,

Vele groeten, Paul

Hello John,
This is beautiful!
The details of light and shadows have been really well handled so the contrasts flow so naturally from one to the other.
A figure in the shadows is also enjoying the same view.
The canal seem almost alive with its gentle ripples and multiple reflections, from the f/g right down to the bridge.
The composition is excellent. To the right, the border follows the frame, whilst the lines on the left, converge to a strong point at the bridge.
Excellent exposure in the bright sunlight!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Dag John,

Hello John, the light shines so brightly on the surface of the water and has given you some beautiful reflections.
This looks a wonderful place to walk and take photographs.
Taken from a good angle so that the bridge is seen clearly.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi John
A fascinating canal scene taken from an excellent viewpoint in such brill weather and colours when the side lighting indicates a well chosen time of day too, allowing highlights and shadowed parts. Lovely how the classic buildings sets off superbly as main feature with gorgeous water detail hold as firm focal. It's a pleasure to view this restful image. Congrats.
Best wishes

Hi John,
Lovely view of this greener side of Bruges. Weather is wonderful and it looks very peaceful there. Obviously there aren't many tourists around nowadays. Lots of swans, I see.

Hello John,
Now you know why.....Bruges is my favorite city. You've captured the scene how I would imagine from this place - the reflections on the water, the swans and ducks happily swimming along the canal under the lovely bridge.
I would just happy to sit on the bench absorb the tranquility of this place as it's shown here.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello John,
The solitary photographer on the decking animates the scene. Good sharpness and superb reflections in the water. The bg arched bridge makes a fine focal point. Tfs!

Hello John,
I have never heard of a "beguinage" before but I presume that is a type of nunnery. In any case, you have written a fascinating note about this place and also shown us a beautiful photograph.
The light and colours are wonderful - bright sunlight and glorious rich colours and a fine composition too. And there are some lovely contrasts, yet we can see lots of detail even in the most shaded areas - like where the man is standing at the end of the walkway looking towards the bridge.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
