Some of the tents in my tourist camp at Wadi Rum. They were pleasant enough to sleep in at night but too hot at midday. Wadi Rum is a spectacular desert area with rugged scenery and sand drifts. More info and photos here

Hi Chris
We planned to go there years ago but a middle eastern war meant we went to Turkey instead. An almost surreal image - with formal geometric tents and the rugged wadi features.

I can't believe you've just posted a photo from a camp in Wadi Rum when my memories of this place are so fresh. I spent three nights in one of those last month - not this one but a very similar camp with huts like this (rather than a westernised, ultra modern one with huts resembling space ships - did you see those??).
Great colours and light - two unforgettable features of Jordan.

Hello Chris,

Those geometric, b&w tents look quite incongruous with the otherwise, stark nature of the desert. For that reason, they do make an interesting photograph. The wooden duckboards make a very effective guide and change of textures. You have really captured the mood of the desert.
Where did you shelter at midday?

Hello Chris,
The tents add a good dose of graphism to the composition and sit well against the orange toned sand and rocks. The duck boards supply an interesting lead-line. Well exposed with excellent cool/warm colour contrasts and very good sharpness.

The tents are not a disturbing element between the big rocks
A lovely soft contrast image
As well as colours and sharpness.

Ces tentes dans le d駸ert sont belle et aussi semblent bien confortable. Un peu comme du camping de luxe dans un environnement chaud qui peut refroidir la nuit venue.

Hello Chris,
I was in Wadi Rum in summer of 1987. No trace of a tourist camp then.
But the red sand and the huge rocks still look so beautiful and very impressive.
The tents provide a great graphical foreground.

I really like the contrast between the black and white tents and the wonderful and impressive rock formations in the background, both in terms of colour and shape. The clarity and sharpness are both superb.

Hello Chris,
There were extensive floods and casualties in Wadi-Rum and the region last week. A winter phenomenon that is rare for such intensity.
The orange/brown golden sand is magnificently shown the arid landscape.
300km from home, but light-speed distance due to politics...

Oh I have so many questions. Did you stay for the lighting of the candles at night at the temple door? I see photos of that and it looks like a cool experience. How many people per tent? and what about food? I want to do this. awesome post, it makes me want to go and makes me ask a lot...sorry :)

Hello Chris,
I like the contrast of the modern, geometric tents, and the rugged rocks. It looks like there's one world in the foreground, and a completely different one in the background. The reddish color and blue sky are also very attractive.

I liked the style of these tents, created a marvelous visual effect of black cubes against the natural shapes of the rocks ahead. I imagine black color make these tents similar with ovens, if they were in white would be better.
