Photographer's Note

This is an unaltered scan of a shot I took with my pocket-sized Olympus Stylus 35mm camera through the bus window. I believe it was at a stopover on the route between Harare and Mutare. A smudge on the glass caused a reflection obscurring the face of the principal subject -- an error that lends, I think, an air of intrigue to the image. Perhaps the missing face becomes metaphorical for the marginal position of this person -- and certainly for my relationship to her as a rich tourist taking photos in a troubled land.

Hello Hugh,
I like your conceptual note.
The extreme subjects looking in oposite directions aways from the camera and the central characters face getting blurred by a smudge, all against a rather eery background, make for a crutial mix! Very interesting photo.
