Retour sur une petite s駻ie de trois photos d'enfants. Notre colonne, en revenant d'une consultation en montagne, a travers� un petit village car nous allions rendre visite � des bergers nomades avec le v騁駻inaire du contingent fran軋is. C'est � ce moment que j'ai vu 3 enfants sur le pas de la porte d'une maison typique afghane, entour馥 d'un mur.
Ceci est la derni鑽e des trois images. Elle a 騁� revisit馥 par jbwapiti.

Back to a little series of three pictures of children. Our column, returning from a consultation in the mountains, crossed a small village because we were going to visit nomadic shepherds with the French contingent's veterinarian. That's when I saw 3 children at the doorstep of a typical Afghan home, surrounded by a wall. This is the last of these three images. It has been revisited by jbwapiti.

Hi Marc!
You're posting these kids again:) I just love them. The colour version show more of the details but this one has an old look that I like. The little kid must be a man by now. He came outside to see something, probably you passing. His trousers seem really big and his expression is great.I like the details of the house, especially the door.

Excellent composition, the transformation of colors really made this shot very dramatic. The sepia tone of the boy standing made an appealing contrast with the bright wall. Very nice.

Incroyable comme on arrive � obtenir deux images tr鑚 diff駻entes � partir d'une m麥e photo. Difficile de comparer mais je dois avouer que j'aime bien ton cadrage et ton traitement mi noir et blanc, mi s駱ia, qui donne un aspect ancien � la sc鈩e. Le r駸ultat est vraiment magnifique (et cet enfant adorable)

Hallo Marc,
Fantastisch foto, heel mooi gecropt en gepresenteerd in de juiste toning. De kleuren versie lijkt ook mooi maar dit geeft toch wel een heel bijzondere sfeer aan het geheel. We zijn nu 5 jaar verder, zal die jongen nog leven vraag ik me dan altijd af. In zo'n verscheurd land waar het de komende jaren alleen nog oorlog zal zijn is overleven heel erg moeilijk. Hoop van harte dat hij zelf deze prachtige foto ooit nog eens onder ogen zal krijgen.
Vakwerk Marc...niets dan lof..!!!

Bonjour Marc,

J ai une petite faiblesse pour la version N&B, meme si je reconnais que la version couleur a un cote plus "reportage", plus reelle.
Notamment, sur le N&B, la gestion du contraste et du placement des tons est tres bonne: il y a du details et de la texture dans toutes les zones.
Pour le recadrage, je pense que le placement dans la verticale n est pas optimum. Je pense qu en relevant le cadre vers le haut; par exemple en coupant au raz du mur a droite pour retirer du sol, la photo serait plus equilibr馥.

nice snapshot from the life in Kabul.I like the silhouette of the little boy with his native clothes, that is standing in front of his door.The wooden door and the hight wall are the main characteristics of this Afghan house.Well done.

J'aime d馗id駑ent beaucoup cette s駻ie de photos des enfants afghans. Entre les deux traitements je vais peut 黎re te surprendre, mais je pr馭鑽e la tienne en N&B car je trouve que 軋 rend ta photo intemporelle. De plus, ton traitement est tr鑚 bon. avec un bon contraste et le format carr� convient tout � fait � la sc鈩e.

C'est ma pr馭駻馥.., je rate plein de choses en ce moment...je vais me rende la vie facile, je suis d'accord avec Polonaise � 100%:).
L'attitude toute simple de l'enfant est ce qui me va droit au coeur. La version de jbwabiti est impeccable d'un point de vue de la couleur et plus "documentaire". Mais ce B/N Marc, est tout simplement magnifique. J'en verdis d'envie...Toute cette clart� et pourtant plein de d騁ails, un contraste pr駸ent et doux n饌nmoins, la l馮鑽e touche s駱ia...en font une photo intemporelle, de grande classe. As-tu utilis� le filtre clarify ? Bravo!

le recadrage donne plus d'impact, en calant l'enfant � gauche alors qu'il regarde � droite, et le traitement noir et blanc est tout bon :)

I feel bad, even sick, whenever i think of those cradles of cultures, thrown back into the pyres of stone age by the hating hands of powerful nations.
A perfect documentary, very nicely treated... Like an elegiac dream for never coming happy days...

Marc,
this shot is all about textures - the texture of the wall with all the cracks, the texture on the wood door and finally the texture of the dirty and filthy clothing of the boy standing at the door. The only thing that isn't about texture is the face and the look of the boy. Having said all this the choice of presenting it in B&W couldn't be better. Perfect! The composition with the door and the boy in the lower left portion of the image provides that tension and suspense that is even enahnced by the boy's look diagonally through the whole image. I agree 100% with George's short written critique.

quelle jolie s駻ie,je n'avais pas vu les 2 premi鑽es,et heureusement que tu les remontres,軋 aurait vraiment 騁� dommage de ne pas las voir!Surtout que c'est un style de photos que j'adore!Je trouve que ton traitement noir et blanc rend tr鑚 bien,mais je crois que je pr馭鑽e quand m麥e les 2 autres,qui, avec leurs tons pastel,me semblent extraordinaires!Mais quand m麥e,ici,le cadrage est superbe,l'enfant est adorable,j'aime l'atmosph鑽e,le c� surran�,la clart� de l'image donnant � la partie sombre o� se trouve l'enfant,un tr鑚 fort impact!Une belle r騏ssite!

Today I discovered your amazing gallery from Afghanistan.
This is one of my favourites. I liked the B&W version more than "revisited" for this photo. I liked your configuration of the door and child at left. Details of the kid's typical costume and his one barefoot is impressive.
