Young monk standing in the doorway watching people in the courtyard of Trashigang Dzong.

In WS I enclosed a crop showing the object the monk is holding in his hands. Does anyone know what it is??

A quite moment cleanly captured with nice framing. The lovely old world colors and expression on his face make this a wonderful yet gentle portrait. Nicely seen.

To wygląda jak portret przodka w ozdobnej ramie, dla mnie to symboliczne, że mnich nie jest w środku życia, a ogląda je przez ramy dyscypliny

Hi Kasia,
A perfectly cropped picture where the door becomes an integrated frame in the picture. Even without this interesting part, it would have been a very attractive picture, a very good portrait with excellent colours.

Hello Kasia,
This is a wonderful photo with perfect light and a perfect dark background. And above all it's perfectly composed and cropped to include thye ornamented frame of the door. And what else is perfect? Certainly you placed the monk at the right distance from the side, facing the right direction. But what is that in his hands? Some kind of prayer-wheel?

Czesc Kasiu,
faktycznie ten przedmiot ciekawi i intrygule(niestety nie udalo mi sie znalezc zadnych wskazowek w necie nt.jego nazwy czy zastosowania.moze inni beda wiedziec)
Natomiast jesli chodzi o sam portret to podoba mi sie kadr.Super pomysl na wykorzystanie ramy drzwi do skadrowania sceny.Oczywiscie sam mnich w skupieniu obserwujacy zycie na zewnatrz,ale i sylwetka mnicha w glebi.Schowana w cieniu i dodajaca calej scenie troche tajemniczowci.
Zdjecie ma wyjatkowy klimat.

Great portrait! Perfect framework by nice and wise usage of tasteful wood frame decorated nice caurving.
I like his meaningful expression so much. Ya that expression is quite common with monk people. Frankly I like this one, compraed with WS, as I think his face is main point in this nice posting.

Zdravo draga Kasia. The young monk is nicely framed by the floral artwork. Very effective play of shade and light and an exposure which captures the skin tones and folds of the clothing in detail.Nice chiaroscuro effect.Srdacni pozdrav. Klaudio.

Witaj Kasiu, Swietnie skadrowane zdjęcie. Wspaniale wykorzystałaś to piekne obramowanie drzwi. znakomite światło, postac mnicha wyłania sie z głębokiego cienia i jest dobrze osietlona. podoba mi sie skupiony wyraz twarzy, kiedy tak obserwuje świat. podoba mi sie ten czrwo no-fioletowy str.
Nie mam pojecia co on trzyma w dloniach. Widziałam mntwo mnich buddyjskich w rnych zakątkach swiata, ale nic podobnego. Nie musi to byc nic związanego z religia.

A great daily life - contemplation picture. Well done. There is a story here, the life, thus far, for this young man. The overall composition and placement is very good. The darkness behind - life in the shadows.

Very pleasant portrait of that young monk, I like the use of the door frame as frame in the frame and the fact that the background of the monk is completely black and thus let us concentrate on him.
As for the object in his hand it looks a bit like a YoYo but could be sone kind of a personal small prayer wheel?

nice portrait of this monk against a dark background. A bit soft but looking nice. The textures of the door is nice. You composed it well but I would prefer the complete figure of this monk in the frame... You should include his feet and some part of the door if possible (IMHO). Overall a very good one. Worth seeing photo. Tfs.

Hello Kasia,

Thanks for the link to this genuinely beautiful photo. I think we agree that doorways and windows make dramatic frames for portraits. The asymmetry, composition, colors, quality of the portrait of the young man... all collaborate to make this a 10/10 image. The cropping with just the left frame visible is a master stroke. Forty-four years ago, long before ccd devices and digital photography came about, we visited China. I took a photo of a Monk. I would love to go back in space and time for another try. I regret now missing the doorway.
