Photographer's Note

night view from our hotel window in Fenghuang

---

At Tiananmen Square Chinese youth have had their May 1968, with students rising up for more openness in a true democracy. Their rebellion failed, just like ours did. Now it seems young people in China are interested in two things: in making money and in having fun. So, the world is truly one.

Fenghuang is a picturesque riverside town. It is immensely popular with (young) Chinese tourists. After dark it transforms itself into one of China's biggest party towns with colourful light and music, which was extremely loud and incredibly close to where we were trying to sleep. Thankfully there is a strict curfew and things quiet down after midnight.
