Photographer's Note
This picture is taken from the rooftop of another diaolou in Zili village. A diaolou is a residential tower, typical for the area around Kaiping. The tower gives protection to the families living inside.
Many diaolou have been built in the early 20th century by returning Chinese who made their fortune oversea. The architecture is a mixture of Chinese, Western and Arabic styles. Ideas brought back by the returning workers.
In 2007, Zili village, together with some other villages in the area, became UNESCO world heritage.

Hello Tonny,
Very interesting buildings. I had never heard about this kind of structure before. I especially like the one in the foreground, where we can see so many of the beautiful details. I like the surrounding countryside, too. Thanks for the informative note, too.
