This panning shot was taken in the late afternoon on the street of Old Canton - a hectic maddening and congested place. Despite the crowd, attention is always on the ground level where the action is but frankly it was extremely difficult to get a decent moving subject as the bustling traffics of all kinds passed by and people got in the way. Ideally I could have composed the tricycle a little bit back to the left, so that it looks like he had some room to go. This is the most acceptable shot, taken under this very frustrating circumstances with monopod mounted.

Setting: 18 mm, 1/10 sec, F14, ISO Raw 200, 1807 hrs

The ghostly bicycles and cars bringing a dreamlike quality to the scene with the three men on their tricycle providing an anchor point. I like it a lot.

The panning technique is really hard and you don't have
to be upset by your results, you won't get at first a good image. We see the busy street life, everything is in movement well translated by the blurr

Hi Abmdsudi.
I appreciate your account of the difficulties you had in taking a shot here. You probably wanted a sharper subject against a blurred context, but maybe not? The lower leg of the rider looks almost sharp, but I think the picture still looks great, never mind that the subject is mid-picture. The effect is certainly one of 'motion' in every respect. I might suggest cropping just a little from the bottom, but keeping the ghostly looking bike wheel fully in the frame. Anyway, a very atmospheric image.

Very good panning photo, which really shows the mood of such a busy place. I can understand the circumstances weren't ideal, but you did an excellent job, focusing really well on the three men on the tricycle in the centre. The bright colours of the store on the other side of the road make a good background.
