Photographer's Note

While in China, I did a 3 day cruise along the Yangzi river.

This is a beautiful river with many interesting monuments on its margins and it goes through some fabulously beautiful gorges. Unfortunately a massive (the biggest in the world) dam was recently built there and the water was predicted to rise about 175m, flooding most of the more beautiful gorges and quite a few cities. Besides ruining the scenery the dam will be an environmental disaster.

I was there in 2003, the year they first closed the dam gates and the water had already risen about 75m. I had always wanted to see this river and hurried there when I found out this was going to happen. The scenery was so incredible beautiful that it was sad knowing that that was the last chance to see it, and to imagine how it had been before the 75m water rise.

Besides the river itself, it was quite an interesting and fun experience to live for three days in a boat filled with only Chinese tourists, but that would take to long to write about

This was shot at sunset and the light, along with the mist, created a kind of magical ambiance.
