Hello,
it is beautiful picture but also very touching. The message it carries is truly sad. The little boy sleeping lonely on the street on some pile of rugs makes me think how unfair the life can be.
The posters behind him create mocking background contrasting real difficult life with the colorful dream of Bollywood.
Excellent quality photo.

Hello Abmdsudi,
This is a touching, hurting and very telling photo. Although it's an excellent composition it is very far from the beautiful views that dominate TE. I like this kind of capture of reality a lot better. It combines two aspects of modern India in a way so straightforward and realistic that it really hurts. In a way I could understand that bystanders were upset, but probably they were mainly embarrassed by the exposure of the reality of their country. Actually it makes me too a bit embarrassed that I enjoy the beauty of this composition, the colours of the posters, the pattern of the rough wall and the torn pieces of old posters.

A splendid written note, with which I strongly agree that serves as an introduction to the envisioned this fantastic photo report, which expresses a sad reality in many parts of the world. The image certainly grieves for the insensitivity of the world, certainly the posters advertised fund other side of the world.
The colors and brightness are superb.
Good sharpness allows us to recreate the details.

Yes, this is a touching photo. I also agree that photography should not always be pretty and beautiful but should show the world as it is, and sadly that world is often unfair and ugly. I think the way the child is lying is very telling, it seems that he is trying to sleep while protecting his possessions. In the background the images advertising the glitz and glamour of the stage for those who can afford to see it is stark.
I would be of the same opinion as you too, and I do like to capture and ponder moments like this. Unfortunately, I generally do not have the courage to attempt as more often than not people in these situations are not happy to be photographed. Here in Ireland, poverty has increased dramatically. On the outside looking in, there are mansions of the wealthy everywhere and the roads are decked with Mercedes and BMWs, but look closer at the doorways in early morning and you will find those who have nothing and who sleep in the rain. It touched me last year in particular as one night I had to attend a work event in a vastly overpriced restaurant in the city. As I stepped out after the meal, I passed by many people sleeping in the rain on the way back to my car. It seemed so unfair. I had just eaten a stupidly expensive meal and these people considered themselves lucky to find a dry doorway to lie in. Our governments policies in recent years has meant that these people were until quite recently working, just like me. Living at home, just like me. As they say, there but for the grace of God go I.

But then, during the day these people are moved on by the police so as not to be an ugly sight for the wealthy business people and tourists. What can you say to that?

I agree, no more words nessecary.

Hello Abmdsudi - just checking in after a long absence from TE. A really touching and important photo here; the juxtaposition between the boy and the glamorous posters behind him really works well to underline your message. India is a country in rapid change, and sadly children like this one are often the victims of it. Photos like yours, though, can help open eyes, which is something at least. well, what can i say? its one of those photos which sometimes less words actually reveal more.

interesting to know the local people gave you a hard time for taking the photo...makes me wonder if any of them were related to the boy and they were watching out for him?

and just as you mentioned, the total contrast between the smiling actors and the real-life scenario on the street - just look at the boys legs and feet!!!

sadly though, this happens in almost every area of the world.

As a photograph, its powerful and thought provoking, signs of a fantastic image.

Sabaidee Abmdsudi,

A very compelling and heart breaking image. As traveler, it is hard to know what to do than to feel bad and then there is so much you can do. I had kids running after me begging for money and after a few you gave, there is not much more we can do. the only hope is that the government can somehow help....

an excellent photo that speak so loud about society problem.

Great shot, not just because of the sad scene, but also because of the contrast with the dream world of the cinema that we see on the wall. Unfortunately, these contrasts are becoming more and more a reality, and not just in India! A great capture of the real world that makes us think for a while.
