Better Crop, a photo from Uttar Pradesh, North

Photographer's Note

I took this photo (from a boat, so didn't have much time to think) because I was attracted by a big blue piece of fabric drying on the steps. Months later, after a closer look, I realised that, inadvertently, I also captured what I think is an interesting street scene. I'll post the ucropped image in WS for you to decide.

I'm sorry I've been (mostly) absent for the last couple of weeks, due to family issues. Whenever I sit down to look at TE and manage to write a critique or two I've got to drop everything and attend to matters that have nothing to do with travel or photography. :-(

Hi Kasia
Whilst the original photo is interesting I do prefer your cropped choice for main as it takes us much more into local life. And I do like the bub making a break for it.

Witaj Kasiu,
Ten kadr to dobra decyzja. Niebieski materiał na schodach jest mniej atrakcyjny od tych scenek. Bardzo mi się podoba. Świetna kompozycja i ostrość zdjęcia zrobionego z łki.
U mnie tez klopoty w domu :(.

I understand why the original view caught your attention, but the photo you posted shows the beaty of creative cropping. There is so much going on everywhere.

I smiled immediately, when I saw this!
I wonder if everyone else is drawn to the sight of the child, with a bare bottom, making an exit up the stairs!

There is a nice triangle of figures in the f/g, the child leading us upwards, the lady dressed in lime green higher up and a vague get-together at the top!
For me, it is an excellent crop of the photograph.

You could also crop the the two colourful figures (to the right on the original). I had a go and it creates quite a different impression from this f/g group!

Hello Kasia,
The blue fabric with the gold edges we see in the WS only gets really interesting for me when an Indian lady wears this as a sari.
Your main photo is the most beautiful part of the photo in the WS. So it was a good idea to crop that picture to get this result.
I hope your family duties don't cause you too many headaches but presumably they do.

You are right, this scene looks great with local people living their life while you pass by on a boat (Which would be impossible to guess). I like the messy hair of the little girl. And people in the shade on top right.

Ciao Kasia,in fact the family scene is very interesting but it is one of the many we have seen, while the big blue cloth is unique and in my opinion it deserved the main gallery. I understand your shot on the fly from the boat and the little time to think, however the quality is excellent. I hope you will have more time and less family problems to resolve as soon as possible. I prefer your WS pic, this is a stunning colourful image, another best of yours I have seen. There is such tremendous strength to the three main elements of the image; the perfectly placed woman & her daughter, the diagonal laid of the eye-catching blue sari and balanced by the couple on right of frame. Furthermore, the lighting is superb coupled by spectacular details and sharpness. An inspired shot, the colours are so good & the picture really stands out thanks to your ingenuity. It's a captivating daily life shot.

Hello Kasia,

Sorry to hear that your mom is still not well. :( The photo on the other hand is of course excellent as always. Its a nice daily genre which offers a lot of details to be observed including the trio in the fg., the lady in the bg. of course the naked 'noble part' of the tiny kid. Fortunately enough you managed to photograph her in a GDPR conform way. :)

Tak to bywa w zyciu ze nie zawsze jest ono takie jak bysmy chcieli. Czasami bawi mnie kiedy np bogaci od urodzenia ludzie pisza ksiazki doradzajac jak byc successful. Albo osoby ktore mialy "latwe w obsludze" dzieci pisza jak byc dobrymi rodzicami.
Troche tak tez jest z podrozowaniem. Niektorzy filozofuja jak to latwo sie im podrozuje ale no wlasnie moze maja ten lut szczescia ktorego Ty w tej chwili nie masz. Zdrowie, pieniadze, wolny czas, brak zobowiazan rodzinnych, to czynniki nieodzowne do pozdrozowania w spokoju. Jeden z naszych kolegow na tym forum kiedys troche podsmiewal sie ze mnie kiedy zaczalem wybierac latwiejsze kierunki podrozowania z dzieckiem. Kiedy zaczal planowac dziecko fantazjowal jak to bedzie z dzieckiem chodzic na blue hour sessions. W praktyce odkad ma dziecko nie pojechal nigdzie i zniknal z forum...
Tak wiec ja jak najbardziej pelen jestem zrozumienia dla Ciebie. Mam nadzieje ze sytuacja zmieni sie wkrotce na lepsze.
