Photographer's Note
We had been up since 3.30am and had gone to the viewpoint for the sunrise over Mount Bromo, one of the classic views on Java.
Unfortunately there was too much fog, and since it was so cold we decided to walk back down to the hotel for breakfast.
As the sun began to break through the mist dissolved and beautiful scenes began to unfold - it was though we were walking down into a spiritual, unearthly landscape. We were afraid of breaking the mood so no-one spoke - it was so quiet we thought we could almost hear the mist moving among the trees.
In the hotel others who had driven down the mountain complained about not seeing the sunrise, but we had memories and photographs of a special walk.
This has been scanned from a slide. After I had adjusted curves and levels I noticed that the noise and grain were giving interesting effects - like an impressionist painting.
So I simply added a frame and left it.

You are right, the noise and grain is giving interesting effects. More like a post-bombardment to me.
Very nice!

Bonjour Brian,
very nice picture!
The mist make it all very special and it's magical.
Grain, noise? look at the "Pointillisme" ! ;-)
Bravo et merci.

Hi Brian,
It is really an impressionistic picture. I like this grain too. But the most beautiful is this foggy atmosphere. Amazing grey-blue tones, fascinating!!! I'll take it to my favourite gallery. regards. maki

Another amazing shot, you have some great pictures where you show us how you handle perfectly the light. This one is incredible, a lot of noise, not so sharp, but the mist mood is present and makes the atmospher of yourphotograph really heavy

This is a poetic image, with a striking sense of aesthetics. Among your best. Again some slightly overexposed areas which would have been rather easy to correct with pp.

Hi Brian, the mood here is fantastic, caused I think by the fog and the artefacts introduced in the scan of the slide. Wonderful highlights and shadows. Sublime. Stephen

Hi Brian, you were certainly blessed with this view. It's amazing and could grace any travel book. I really like the grainy, monochrome and the haphazard nature of the trees poking through the mist. A stunner! Paul.
