Photographer's Note
One years or more have passed since the earthquake disaster. However, as for reclamation processing of rubble, still progressing only about 6% is actual. Seemingly it is the cause that the self-governing body of an another prefecture has resisted acceptance for reasons of radioactive contamination etc. It is what is called ego. The self-governing body which still has the compassion which shares suffering a calamity is beginning to announce the acceptance. It is glad. The left-hand side of this photograph is children who play in riverbank. And, right-hand side is a child at Miyako city of Iwate prefecture who carries water for the inside of rubble immediately after an earthquake disaster. The expression which bears a tear is pitiful. As for me, what could contribute to disaster victims so much in addition to a donation?

Left photograph:
This photograph is taken in the riverbed in Tama River in the spring of last year. I was walking slowly towards the upper stream on that day from the lower stream in Tama River. In the bank of the river, the reed has grown thick and chirping of a little bird was able to be heard occasionally. It was one quiet day which makes a meeting in going occasionally with those who are taking a walk the bank. On the way, the boys in character with a schoolchild sat on the lawn of a bank, and were frolicking happily. Probably, it will be the time after a school ends up as the students of the elementary school near this. I'm not in memory whether they play the card game or eat a snack. However, from their expression, it looked most fortunate that it is together with a friend in this way.

Hello Mikio,
This is a very touching double photo. To the left, how we all would like life to be, a nice picture in the ordinary style of TE, to the right a shocking and sad sight of a kind we rarely see on these pages. Both are valuable documents and with good photo qualities. Combined they provide a strong picture of Japan today.
Kind regards,
Gert

Mikio,
I deplore the disaster that hit Japan, the tsunami and the nuclear disaster of extreme severity. The photo expresses the pain and sacrifice, but also hope, that arouses this cheerful and carefree youth. Dramatic pictures of beautiful. Bravo.
Have a nice day

Hi Kato,
It is always sad to remember the earthquake from a year ago, but is very pleasant to see how the Japanese are recovering of this terrible disaster. Very nice capture of the small kids playing and moving on. Great composition here.
