The athletic meet(called "Undoukai" in Japanese) is a physical education event by parties concerned (student in case of the school) chiefly done in the educational institution and the regional society etc. such as the schools. It plays a game and it plays chiefly using moving ability in the playground. It is often done twice a year, and there are next a lot of holding in spring (May or the beginning of June) in autumn (September or October). Opposing it making a team according to a color red and white etc. is general.

In the process with which Japan forms the modern state, it is said that the athletic meet played a major role. For one thing, it is enumerated to have contributed to the integration of the regional society while it proceeds the reorganization of a traditional, regional society by the progress of the maintenance of the home rule system and the industrialization. It became possible to reconfirm the unity of the regional society that centered on the school by positively participating in the athletic meet including not only the student but also adults who were not allowing adults and child in the region to be gone to the school either, and to do strongly.

The athletic meet is held first in Japan on 1874 according to the guidance of English teacher British Frederic William Strange of association in the naval college.
It came to hold the athletic meet at the school so that the Minister of Education may recommend the group training in the physical education afterwards. It tends to the reduction and abolition also in the office and the region for the management situation of the enterprise not excellent, depopulation in the region, and the reasons for the dilution etc. of the connection now though the athletic meet is held and it existed before.
