Photographer's Note

The Toden Arakawa Line is a streetcar line in Tokyo, Japan, operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation. The Arakawa Line is the sole survivor of Tokyo's once-extensive Tokyo Toden streetcar system, but it is not the only tram line in Tokyo, as the privately owned Tōkyū Setagaya Line is also classified as a streetcar. The Toden Arakawa Line operates between the terminals at Minowabashi Station and Waseda Station, and it operates on its own tracks. Presently, single driver-operated cars make the 12.2 km trip in 50 minutes. The many streetcar routes in the city of Tokyo were abolished one after another by the spread of automotive societies in the 1960s that it caused traffic stagnation. As mentioned above, the orbital lines which do business in 23 wards of Tokyo are only the this Arakawa line and Setagaya Line. In addition to Tokyo, the streetcar business is done in local cities, such as Hiroshima, Okayama, Sapporo, and Kochi etc, even now. This photograph is taken towards the direction of Minowa, Arakawa from near Ōji station, kita-ku.

Hi dear Mikio. I am currently reading Haruki Murakami's 1Q84 where Tengo goes on a train journey to the coast. I have many of Murakami's novels. I like the the combination of shade and light in this image and the sense of depth and a journey.Pity about the demise of the streetcar and the resulting increase in cars and pollution. Regards. Hi Mikio
The mellowed warm tones is attractive catching the eyes and pulls into the deep track and the backdorp with the on coming train adds as a strong focal to suit this mood. Exposure is well managed, good placement and toning depicting a fine effect yet looks so good and stunning wiith slight hazy. This is a cleverly planned shot. Well done, Congrats

Hello Mikio,
The electric network of wires and poles employed well in contrast to the sky, and the red train approaching gave dynamic superb scale to the whole.
Difference between already darkened ground and the houses still under light also played nicely on photo.
