Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in the Jūjō shopping mall in front of the Jūjō station of Tokyo, Kita-ku. This shopping mall began to be built and the second half of the Meiji 30s by maintenance of an army relation institution. After that, here also overcame war, and has developed. There has jostled about member's store 200 store in both sides, and the full length of a shopping mall has a length of about 800 m, now. The store which forms a shopping mall is a small individual store basically. A type of shop is also variegated and are miscellaneous daily goods, food, medicine, restaurant, shop dealing in Western-style apparel, accessories/stationery, clock/glasses, household appliance, real estate, barbershop, etc.
It has all goods required for everyday life. Because of advance of large-scale retail stores such as supermarket, or 24-hour convenience store, the management of the so-called local individual store is forced hard-fight in the point of sales or profits over the past tens of years. It seems that reality is severe although customers think that a quota of coexistence and co-prosperity is just performed. The store did business vigorously today also and it was still being crowded with the local-residents visitor as lunchtime.

Hello Mikio,
This is an interesting photo with a good foreground and excellent depth. The signs, metal tubes and roof windows lead us straight through the mall, and the curve makes the view even more attractive. The soft light is very pleasant and superbly handled by you.

Shopping malls looks just the same, all over the world, Mikio, yet in japan all signs are in diff. language. I can see that biks are allowed indoor's, this is rather new to me.
Good DOF and I was looking on people face's expressions, busy with shopping spree - like anywhere else...

Hi Mikio,
I am most intrigued by the curvature of the ceiling in this photo. Light management is exquisite, it does not look like you used a flash. What a beautiful display of perspective!
