I'll be saying happy new year with this photo, and may it be the first of many more this year.

I'm still in my archive of photos and this is from my 5th trip to Japan.
I usually say that I have seen enough of Tokyo, but I always end up back here for something.
In this case I had brought along a large group of friends and we had a visit to the Tokyo Tower just in time for the sunset.

I shot this photo handheld from the lower observation platform of the Tokyo Tower looking due west over the city.
The reason for using the lower observation platform was that this was less than a year after the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami and the upper parts of the tower had sustained some damage

But what this view did for me was to give me an impression of how enourmously large the City of Tokyo is. Ofcourse, cities like Shanghai are also enourmous, but that city has a lot of tall building so you don't really get the correct impression, whereas Tokyo is built on a much lower scale due to the hazard of earthquakes and makes for truly stunnings views if you find a good vantage point. It just looks like it goes on forever into the distance.

It is also said that you might get fabulous views of Fuji-san from Tokyo, but that depends a lot on weather.
Though I might not go much back to Tokyo, I do wish I can shoot that elusive Fuji from Tokyo photo.
