Photographer's Note
I was not able to stop being attracted by red of umbrellas in front of the National Theatre of Japan, when going to Chidorigafuchi to look the state of flowering of cherry blossoms over beforehand.
Chose this composition finally to minimize the white sky, and to cut a confused part out of the bottom.
This red umbrella is called "Nodate gasa" well seen at an open-air tea ceremony. It means a umbrella for a open-air tea ceremony, not no date.

:) this makes me smile!
something that was on my mind for a long time but never looked for such umbrella and tried it
very well taken with such a striking color of red which is always a favorite color of the Chinese and Japanese during festivals and happy events
the circular shapes of the umbrellas and the radial black lines, very good for contrast and graphic impression
interesting wide view because I see the man at left has his face elongated from distortion, even the umbrella stick is distorted in diameter size
Good work and I like it

Great shot Hisashi!
You really csaptured the umbrellas well. The wide angle lens on the 5D really makes this shot.
Sharp detail, unique POV- great colors, and good tonal levels.
Keep up the great work!

Very nice Hisashi. The color pops, and the repetition of the umbrellas is cool. I think paints a nice picture of Japan. Well done.

Hi Hisashi,
i would have done the same thing like you if I would have seen those kind of umbrellas but I would'nt have chosen this POV. Not because it's not good, at the contrary, but because this fantastic idea would'nt have come in my mind.
Well done my friend,
Edi

Hello Hisashi,
The vivid red and the black lines (at the outside they're white) of the umbrellas form beautiful patterns, repeated several times over the picture.
The composition with the inside of the umbrella on the foreground is very good.

Hi Hisashi,
A what a nice subject for a Canon guy ;-)
All this red makes the photo indeed eye catching starting from the thumbnail, and it's good you minimized that white sky.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Hisashi,
Well seen and well executed from a well choosen point of view. Great idea to have most of the photo covered by the underside of the umbrella. And the other ones are esqually well placed to make a wonderful composition.

Hello Hisashi,
Nice composition using very well the red umbrella. Sometimes the white sky forces us to find new point of view to avoid this issue. It seems you succeeded well here. Even more with the full deep of field showing well the details on the first close umbrella.

Very well-played wide angle distortion. Really nice and vidid RED. Again, very Japanese--with the nodate gasa and the newer building in the background.

Hisashi-san こんにちは. Very fine graphism provided by the bright red umbrellas in the typical urban Tokyo setting. Good moment with some people walking underneath, and I like the angle resulting from the wide lens that you used. Superb capture, well done.

Hello Hisashi,
Red umbrellas, -some months ago I tried to post a shot of a traditional Japanese wedding in colour but the best crop didn't show the umbrella just the red cast of it over the brides white dress, I had to go for B/W because I couldn't get rid of the red cast.
Nice composition here to use the foreground umbrella to cover up most of that hot white sky, necessity is the mother of all invention eh!!! Well done, I like the graphic look plus the colour rendition is wonderful.

Peter

Distortion of wide and upwards angle fits perfectly with those bround and bright red umbrellas. It's the visual effect that counts on this one.
