Photographer's Note

This is a unique ritual event for a new year, which is conducted at the center of Tokyo. In the field of shrine, the instant plastic pool is prepared, there are many big ices in the water, so the water temperature is very low as biting. The serious believers soak themselves three times, one time takes around one minute while reciting some unusual spell loudly. That makes us feel cold, however they believe that they can purify themselves and be in good health.
Purification totally takes 30 minutes. Now he is ready to go.

A nice picture. The way the man holds his arms make this a rather unusual kind of portrait. The light is well used and the sharpnessis perfectly placed on the man's face.

as usual you go from the group scene to the individual portrait with ease - after your rugby shots taken after the game (in itself a ritual event!), this purification ritual portrait is a close-up on the moment before the ritual - the beautiful light makes the man's features stand out perfectly, and as usual your camera delivers and gives us plenty of detail and quality.
