Photographer's Note
The new year lease by Shintoism of Japan is called "Shime-kazari."
The pine to which God dwells in a gate is decorated with the New Year of Japan.
Therefore, Shime-kazari is decorated in order to prevent an impure thing advancing during seven days of New Year when God is descending.
This is decorated by the door of the house which becomes the boundary of a sacred place and world.

Good shot - very clear and colourful. I've seen these things everywhere over the last few days - even on the fronts of cars. Great note too...

日本っぽい。nice exposure on the orange. little over exdposed on the white. in PS there is a new function in PS 8 called shadow/higlight that might be able to adjust it a bit. its heavy on adding grain and artifiacts but I think with jsut a little you might be able to get away with it.
