Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in Tsukishima of the Tokyo downtown area in autumn two years ago. Although a high rise apartment is built and located in a line with this whole place by the Tokyo waterfront redevelopment project, the individual store and private house with old structure still remain. The store on the left-hand side of this photograph is a restaurant of japanese style, and right-hand side seems to be a store dealing apparel and accessories. It's interesting in the unbalance of two buildings because of old and new.
The student in character with a high school student walked and passed away the direction of a nearby subway station in early morning.

Hello Mikio,
This is an interesting photo with very good tones of B&W. As you point out there is an interesting contrast between the traditional building to the left and the modern house to the right, but they both provide a lot of fine details to watch. The schoolgirl stepped into the view at th right moment.

The image almost merges the old and new, the effect of black and white as intended but I'm not sure whether it would work in colours. The impact is certainly interesting, a cool shot and nicely balanced composition the way the subjects are placed. Simply beautiful, calm and gentle shot. Well done.

Excellent monochrome street snapshot. Excellent arrangement with two different houses, one darker the other one bright, and also the walking lady and the picture of the other one. You have framed it in excellent tight crop. The light and contrast is perfect.
