Photographer's Note
For the ones who missed this shot and I have included a new note
I took this picture up on mount Fuji around 10pm, from a far distance there was a lightning show and I managed to capture it with a slow shutter speed.
It looks like I was on an airplane when I took it, but I was actually around 3000ft up on Mount. Fuji.
We stopped ample times whilst climbing Mount. Fuji and I had the chance to take this picture whilst everyone was watching this display of lights.
In actual fact, we could only see darkness when you saw it with your naked eye, but with the slow shutter speed, the whole city below glowed from the lightning and this photo was produced alongside clear stars up above.
That night we saw Mars too.
I hope you enjoy it.

Funny what can show up on a photo that we can't see ourselves. this is a fine light show and an interesting city and sky view. Nice mood, well captured.

Wow, what a spectacular view. The colours are amazing and I love how you see all the stars in the sky.
The clouds and light give this photo a very moody and atmospheric look.
I think this is one of the best night shots I have seen.

Stunning atmosphere and light you captured in this one, Dan. Beautiful range of night colors, I would say you got a maximum effect here from a shot that looks simple at first glance, but like Jaap said is not that easy to do. Great job.

Wow!!! Looks to something like close encounters! Absolutely astonishing, surrealistic, but marvelous result. Patterns, softness and tones are really unusual and beautiful. Yes I enjoy it. Thanks for sharing Daniel.

This is so other worldly. It looks like not only are you in an airplane but in something even higher ascending into space. The clouds below you really gives the feel that you are leaving the atmosphere for the clear starry darkness of space above. The lightning in the clouds are really nicely captured. They give such an eerie look to the clouds. And far below the city lights look like flowing rivers of magma in my imagination. It's really dramatic and really beautifully done. So out there. Great job, Daniel!

Unusual perspective. A little unsharp, but still a great shot. Is the Japanese proverb correct? (A wise man climbs Fuji Yama just once, but a fool climbs it twice). My cousin's been up there. She said she won't be doing it again in a hurry.
But seriously, a really different type of shot, & thanks for sharing.

I guess you took a photo of Mordor from "The Lord of the Rings" story...
This almost look like a dutch painting from the renaisance. Stunning colors and effects.

Bravo for this wonderful shot! Technical performance allied with beauty. I wonder what would it have been without the polarizer?
