Reflections of a tambang, a photo from Sarawak, East

Photographer's Note

Close-up on a tambang, one of the small traditional boats criss-crossing the Sarawak River connecting Kuching with the outlying villages or kampongs.

It is likely that trade has diminished since the opening of the new footbridge in 2017, but they are still much in evidence, popular with locals and tourists alike.

I'm glad to see these boats are still used. The bright colours made this one perfect for a photo, considering the fine reflections. As far as I remember, the rowers used to be standing up "in my days". Have they gone lazy? ;-)

I love the peacefulness of this shot with the man sailing past in his small boat on the calm water of the river. The reflections are wonderful, their bright red and yellow colours are real eye-catchers.

I like the wide angled, panoramic crop and the superb reflections of the boat. Good sharpness, colour and saturation. The bridge decking acts as a partial frame at the top. Tfs!

The colours on the tambang are delightful and make a most attractive, streaked reflection in the water, seeming to suggest movement.
I like how you have been able to include the oarsman wearing a traditional hat.

Wonderful pink & yellow boat cruising the river and its reflection over water.
The pink color works marvelousely with the brown tone of the water. The man at the bow had put a pink hat as well...

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the tambang. The presence of the person is animating the scene. Have a nice day.

Quite original looking boat, I think it is the shape of that cover that makes a difference. Pink cover is unusual and makes a special colour combination with yellow side details and brown river water.

lovely traditional boat. I like the pink color. My daughter wold love it.
I see as well that somebody got wet in there and now dries their clothes on the roof of the boat :)
The reflection adds of course a nice touch.
