Photographer's Note
Kedah as the rice bowl of Malaysia plays an important role in the nations food supply, because rice is one of the most important sources of the world's food supply and the third most important crop in Malaysia. In 2006, the total national rice production was 2.154.000 tons grown on 645.000 ha. Among these, the largest granary is in Kedah which covers 98, 860 ha with an average yield of 4.12 ton per ha. Salinity is one of the key factors for reducing yield of rice. In arid and semi arid regions limited water and hot dry climates frequently cause salinity that limit or prevent crop production.
This shot shows the deep green paddy fields around Kedah's highest mountian, Gurun Jerai, which always attracts clouds. Consequently it rains very often, what is good for paddy plantation

Hi Urs,
a nice and tranquil environment with the green land to contrast perfect with the blue and puffy sky.I like the calmness and the peaceful of the place,as the existence of the branch on the foreground, making the scene more effective.

Ol Urs, this is a striking framing, love the way the branch gets in the way of the beautiful view. The image is very crisp and the colors are wonderful. The flatness of the paddy field trasmites a nice sense of tranquility. Again, great cloudy sky enhancing.

Hi Urs
My compliment for this wonderful image, probably your best shot this week, very nostalgic to me, something that i really missed. Resemblence of my kampong in Malacca in the 60s and 70s. Now in the name of modernisation paddy cultivation becomes thing of the past, lands were sold and tranformed into industrial use. What a capture, blue sky with quite dramatic clouds, deep green field, beautiful tree branches in the fg, and Gunung Jerai in the backdrop. Splendid shot, excellent useful infor with facts and figs. Thks for sharing.

Hello Urs,
The clever framing pleasingly balances the composition. Crisp sharp details and the DOF are impressive. Lovely lighting and the rich colors are fabulous.
