Photographer's Note
Guraidhoo, Maldives, June 29, 2018
So I couldn't leave the Maldives without capturing the classic views. The palms, turquoise water, beaches... I walked around the island with my camera and came across some kids playing in the trees. They were very nice and wanted me to take some photos of them. We ended up trying fencing with the palm leaves. Eventually, I had the site to myself.
Guraidhoo is a small island. About 500 meters across in any direction. Around 1800 people live there. At the time of my visit, during my two days, I met three other tourists plus a lovely Chinese family who joined me on my ferry ride back to Mal.
I went there during the FIFA World Cup and at two places they had put up big screens where you could watch the matches. The locals are very much into football. They have one full-size football pitch and right next to it there's a smaller one with artificial grass.
For eating, the place to go is Amore. The Island Bite is another recommended option. For swimming, there is a local beach, but make sure to wear appropriate clothing. The locals are mainly Muslims. Guraidhoo is connected by a bridge to a "Picnic Island" where you can find the "bikini beach". Here you can swim wearing whatever you want. Unfortunately, that beach isn't very good. I heard they are planning to make a new "bikini beach" and it was currently under construction. Most likely it will be ready next year.

Maybe it's a cliche but it makes me want to be there! Warm sandy beaches, tropical coconut palms, no crowds, and it reminds me of some of the smaller, remoter Indonesian or Philippines islands I visited. Tfs!

Hello Fredrik
Well now your secret is no longer that. You have provided many with spectacular views and post card dreams. Now someone needs to pay you to continue this. Maybe CNN can let you fill some big shoes on the set of Parts Unknown. Just a thought. Nice dreamy image of Paradise.

Hi Fredrik
So this is the second photo from Guraidhoo on TE ever. :-) Indeed, it looks like paradise. It's nice to have this kind of place to yourself, shared, occasionally, with the locals and three other visitors.
I did guess the local population was mostly Muslim when you mentioned some kinds of ferries not operating on Fridays.
Thank you for your extensive advice on travel in the Maldives in reply to my comments on your previous upload. I've made a note and, hopefully, will be able to use it one day.
For the time being - in four weeks I will be on the flight to Tel Aviv and will visit a few places you have recently been to. :-)
Have a nice weekend

Hi Fredrik
I hope all is well! It was hard to pick which of your newest posts to writer on, I enjoy all of them. In the end this one captured my attention the most. the lighting, the colors in the water, the wind blown palm trees, the clouds, the blue sky, it has a lot going for it. excellent placement of the horizon line as well. cheers
Craig
