Photographer's Note
Inside the New Tretyakov Gallery there is an area for the Stalin age and a kind of communist art named "Socialist Realism" in evidence between 1932 to 1988.It was the oficial style of the government and the artists who didn't use the rules were persecuted.
According with the rules que artwork should be important and understandable by the proletarian people, should have typical scenes of daily life of people, it should be realistic and give support to the aims of the state and the communist party.
Here we have a big canvas named "Stalin and Kliment in the Kremlin" created in 1938 by Aleksander Gerassimov. They are strolling in the top of the ramparts after the rain, Kliment was a military chief of the country. The statues around show us a worker of a steel industry, in FG we have a shepherd. I guess it was funny that ballerina at side of Stalin, surrounded by all these rude men.

Hello Jorge,
I guess you didn't find the painting of Stalin worth a closer view, but this wider view really makes the photo better. We see more of the room and the position of the painting in relation to other objects. Even better would have been to have another visitor watching a painting or statue, but I know that is not always possible. But in any case this is a well composed and nicely framed photo, and it's well exposed.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Jorge,
Interesting example of Stalinist propaganda. The painting is well exposed and the way it is lit makes it the dominant subject in your photo. The two statues frame the painting well. The photo could benefit from some sharpening.

Hello Jorge, once again your notes are very informative. I was totally unaware of the restrictions on the art that the government enforced, how terrible!
I like this viewpoint where this time we see several works of art.
Placing the ballerina next to the picture of Stalin is a bit of a surprise.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hi Jorge,
I am not sure whether you did it on purpose, many people may be not aware that the biggest part of Disneyland in Florida is called Magic Kingdom. But I like that very much.
I did compare once the Windsor Castle as well to a theme park. People are willing to pay for it. Same here, but instead of the Queen, Stalin.
Is it also a Degas painting hiding there with the ballerina?
Great reportage, I enjoy it I have a feeling I visit the museum myself.
Very well done,
M

Hello Jorge,
This wide view of the scene makes the figures with everyday occupations, appear to be framing the figures of Stalin and Kliment. Or, looked at it from the opposite viewpoint, Stalin and Kliment are creating these occupations for everyday people.
The ballerina is turning her back on the scene, is that significant or just an accident of the display!!!
It is a fine, well exposed photograph.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Ola Jorge
The 2 fg statues add a 3d effect to give depth and layering to the composition. Good sharpness and diffused light. I like the painting, but not 'uncle Joe', who was a homicidal tyrant. Tfs!

Hello Jorge, The exhibits here are for me rather amusing than beautiful. The prima ballerina somehow does not fit there in this men's world. Good presentation.

Hi Jorge
You writing about painters who were out of favour reminds me of a museum dedicated to them. Have you ever heard of the town of Nukus in Uzbekistan? It is a dusty little visited town in western Uzbekistan that has one attraction - a museum set up to show art from "discredited" artists in Soviet Russia. Recently they've modernised and expanded the museum to show more of the art - a very interesting place.
cheers

Hola Jorge.
Magnifica foto de esta sala del museo de la epoca staliniana, la verdad resulta muy sombria y austera, el cuadro de la bailarina es como un toque de vida.
Excelente claridad, nitidez y detalle.
Bien hecho. Me gusta.
Que tengas un buen dia.
Saludos muy cordiales.
Luis.
