Gostiny Dvor is a huge department store, which is being gradually turned into a shopping mall, since a significant part of its 164,690 sq. feet. of trading space is rented out to smaller shops. Constructed between 1757 and 1785, Gostiny Dvor has a reputation for being one of the world's first shopping malls and occupies a whole city block on Nevsky Prospekt.

Gostiny Dvor lies opposite Eliseev Emporium. I liked the long arcades. Inside there were just small shops.

Hello Malgo,
Both photos are well composed with very nice depth. This one is more lively, the WS is "cleaner" and more perfectly symmetrical. Both are well exposed and worth a good look. It seems to be an international trend that old department stores are transformed into conglomerations of small shops. Usually they all consist of the same international chains, making department stores and shopping malls all over the world look exactly the same.

A nice long colonnade with attractive light from one side and some passers-by to make the picture lively should of course never escape the camera of a TE member.
This example in Saint Petersburg is of course perfect and also perfectly photographed.

I read in this area there are nice restaurants (cheap) for tourists. nice details of the repetitive arches and the people in the area.

Zerknalem ze mam podobny kadr z tego miejsca tylko, ze u mnie sa kuliste lampy :)
Albo zmienili przez kilka dni albo fotografowalem ten budynek z innej strony.

Malgorzata, it s incredible to think that shopping mall is so old. It is established in a historical building dating from the 18th century. The repetition of arches and lanterns create a pleasant visual effect and a good depth. It should be a heaven for the shoppers.

Fantastic the great perspective achieved in these long arcades, the line of lanterns seems to be lost in the distance, beautiful alternation of color in beige and white.
