Photographer's Note

Another traditional photo from me. This time some traditional Korean woodcarved masks at Namdaemun market in Seoul.

I spent the whole day with my friend Ben shooting with my new 50mm lens, trying to get the hang of it. Gotta say that I simply love this lens. The hardest ting is trying to guess where to position myself as I seem to be starting out too close to some subjects. But once I get the hold of it Ill be ok.

i have all the supprt if you show something that bears tradition, i adore you showing a bit of that. these things are getting lost from our surroundings. we need to show these to people to get them aware of what had already existed.
We have similar problems in India.

very colorful and depicts the traditional artwork.

Dawno nie widziaｳem tak czystych i klarownych kolor i tak ｳadnie rozmytego tｳa. Jeｶli to rzeczywiｶcie 1.8/50 Mark II Canona, to faktycznie jest on dobry pomimo plastiku. Wracajｱc do kadru-jest wspaniaｳy. Wyekstrachowaｳeｶ z tradycji to, co najistotniejsze dla jej okreｶlenia.

Rafal, I can't exactly recall, but I know that a couple of very famous photographers, that was the only lens they ever used. It even gave them a style. I think you are starting too close because you are still thinking in terms of the wide angle... TFS.

Again a great bokeh that you got with your new lens in this one, Rafal. The carved masks make a good foreground interest where the colors and textures of the materials are well rendered, and the soft look towards the background at the right balances it to an aesthetically satisfying total.

Hej Rafal. another great shot of the masks... they are like the theater masks, the laughing and the crying. The colors are fantastic and it is pretty sharp too... again, great bokeh... but that's what's to except with this lens wide open. Nice work.

is one of these too Ben? OK - enough of the cheap jokes over your great spelling mistake (I love them and mis-hearing things) - this is such an nice and effective use of your lens - I'm sure you're just doing it to make the rest of us green with envy!!

Quel bokeh....excellent.
Fallait avoir l'id馥 de la faire celle-ci...et le r駸ultat est tr鑚 int駻essant.
J'aime bien ton choix de cadrage avec cette ouverture sur la droite. Ces 2 masques ressortent tr鑚 bien et l'harmonie des couleurs est tr鑚 bonne.

LOL I wonder if you'll ever manage to remove this lens from your camera body now, seems it was tailor made for you going shooting such nice Rafalades ;-)
Personally I find it a bit long, I'm considering a luminous Sigma 20mm...
Nice subject these colorful masks, the wood adds warmth to this photo that has a superb bokeh.

i kolejne swietne, tamte bardziej delikatne a te chwytajace ostrymi kolorami i "twarzami" masek. podoba mi sie pomysl pokazania tradycji i historii poprzez pamiatki/figurki...rzeczy martwe, ale na twoiuch zdjeciach staja sie zywe.

The colours and texture on the wood are lovely. Great light on the main subject and the composition is perfect. The new lens is showing great sharpness and bokeh... I think you got the hang of it :-)
