Photographer's Note
I'm back after quite a loong break. My last post on TE was just before going to Thailand in March. Since returning to the UK we have also travelled in England and Scotland. I have spent many hours PPing all the images I have taken in the intervening weeks, and have many new images on my website. For the latest posts on my website check out the 鼠atest uploads page for directions.
Sukhothai was Siam痴 (As Thailand was known) first capital city up until the end of the 15th century, when it was abandoned in favour of Ayutthaya. The original city of Sukhothai was surrounded by walls with four gates, but the whole city went into decline and was left for the jungle to take over until it was re-discovered in the 19th century. Since then it has been fully excavated and made into a Historical Park with ruins of the Royal Palace and many wats, lakes and a moat. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and beautifully kept. Wat Maha That is the most impressive of the wats and covers a large area.
ISO200, FL32mm,
Edit I was reminded by ChrisJ that the best way to get around this huge Historic Park is to hire a bike!

Hi Kath
Nice to see you post. It's been a while. So is this place related to Ilkley Moor B'Tat :)) No probably not. You photographed this at the right time of day as the colours are so nicely saturated and the exposure is spot on.
Cheers

Hello Kath,
J'aime beaucoup les couleurs chaudes de ce d馗or architectural. Ces ruines ressortent parfaitement dans cette lumi鑽e. Tu as su jouer avec les reflets afin d'ajouter de la profondeur l'image.
Bien vu !

Hello Kath,
You do seem to get about quite a bit! A lovely composition of this beautiful temple complex captured under a very appealing warm light. I like the point of view and the inclusion of the reflections in the round edged lake. Excellent sharpness.

Hi Kath
Very nice, I been wondering where to go on my next trip to Thailand in Januray. Just did a quick search on the net and this place look great.
I love the rick colour of their bricks. Just back from Ayuthaya, that's an amazing place too.
Great composition.

Hi Kath,
It's great to have you back on the "posting business". And in great style, which isn't really a surprise.
Ah... You make me melancholic, as it reminisces me Ayuttaya, which I believe is less interesting than Sukhotai.
Quoting one of my favourite expressions of John Munro, everything is spot on the money - an effective, discreet, compo that makes a nice use of the reflection, excellent natural colours (I like you kept the sky slightly purple, I guess for the sake of realism), a pleasant presentation of a magical place. We have to thank the gardeners also, as those red flowers on the bushes make a beautiful match with the bricks of the ruins.
Regards,
Jos

Hello Kath,
I am very happy when I have seen your photos here after a long break. Be welcome, my friend!!
The scene caught in this capture is very elegant, you have played skilfully with the ruins and its reflections on the water mirror, while the warm tonalities of the light give a lot of visual strength to the image.
A beautiful work.
Warmest regards,
Josep

hi Kath,
the warm light adds real magic to this scene, I like a lot the strong colours against the pale sky. the mirror-perfect reflection adds calm and almost Zen-like mood to the scene, that's certainly a plus. I'd probably try and "clean" the water a little, at least clone away the biggest specks of dirt. but that's a minor point.
best,
Kristine

Hi Kath,
Nice to see you back again. I love the way you framed the curves of the building with the curve of the lake and captured the perfect reflection within. It's a curves within curves. I'm waiting for a plane in Boston, so I'll catch you website when we get home. The question is, will we buy that sailboat or not?
