Photographer's Note
Good food is one of the great joys in life, both at home and when travelling. That's one of the reasons why we love travelling in Asia so much. And the good news is that the best food is not served in expensive formal restaurants but in small local eateries and streetside stalls. And it's often dirt cheap too!
Vietnamese cuisine is my favourite, because of the many fresh ingredients, the tremendous variety (with lots of local specialties) and the hands-on experience of the way most dishes are eaten.
My favourite Vietnamese cuisine is that of the deep south, probably because that's the one I know best. But the cuisine of central Vietnam (Hoi An, Hue) is another definite highlight. Local style noodle soup, various types of rice flour cakes, Vietnamese style dumplings, etcetera, etcetera.... If there is something on the menu that we don't know yet, we usually make sure to order that first!
---
THIS PICTURE shows a busy streetfood stall in central Hoi An. Most of the customers here are Asian tourists visiting the town. The available dishes are written on a sign against the wall. Tourist place or not, the real local Hoi An cuisine is top. Highly recommended!
Not for those who want to be picky: most of the dishes sold here are actually Hue specialties!

Hello Benny,
Yes, this is very far from an expensive formal restaurant but I am sure the food was just as good. What I sometimes found confusing with eateries like this was the lack of menus and hardly anyone to ask about the dishes to find out what would make a reasonable meal. And I hate those low stools! They are so uncomfortable when eating. But the photo evokes memories and the orange wall makes a great background to the view of the hungry young persons.
Regards,
Gert

Hallo Benny,
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Benny ,
Very fine scene of the daily life. I like a lot the composition with the hat and the board on the yellow wall.

Dag Benny,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John.

Hello Benny,
I share Gert's opinion on the low and uncomfortable seating, but the photo itself is excellent. The vivid yellow bg stands against the darker fg. and the dark red seats.
Good observation!
Best Wishes,
Gy

Hello Benny, the yellow wall immediately grabs attention, then taking in the title we realise what is happening.
The low red stools are also eye catching,(unsure whether I could manage those!)
Everyone is so hungry, they are taking no notice of you.
A good observation of everyday life.
Good notes.
Regards Jean.

Dag Benny,

hello Benny, I liked the Vietnamese food, for instance, the famous pho soup. In Polish, the spring rolls are called "saigonki". But I preferred the Tai cuisine. I was very disappointed in the dishes in the south of China, although I like Chinese food very much and I often cook by myself in Chinese style. When travelling I use rather the places full of locals, rarely (never) expensive restaurants.
Nice picture of the street "restaurant" with these typical low stools. I think I have never tried eating like this.
Kind regards Malgo

Hi Benny
there are a number of TE members that will really enjoy this street scene :) I can totally see my wife (chinese heritage) loving this style of eating while out on vacation. personally, I'm a huge fan of Vietnamese Pho noodles - so good. I would certainly eat here too. great to have the bold strong colourful wall as your bg, and everyone is too busy eating to realise they're being photographed hahaha. good one. cheers

Hi Benny,
I hope all is well. It's been a long time!
These kind of scenes are what draws me to Asia, the food and the scene around it. I love that in much of Asia that is food such a part of daily life, it's everywhere, delicious and communal.
Cheers
Justin
