Photographer's Note
This picture taken during a visit in Leuven Belgium, you can see the entry of the great Beguinage. The great Beguinage beginning 13de century was founded, outside the then town walls. The oldest houses date from the 16de century, then the original loam houses in stone, were rebuilt. The 72 houses got them name to a saint or to an event from the will. Around years 1600, lived 300 Beguins on the Beguinage. It were religious women who lived in community, but no eternal vow had take off. Them preserved their own goods and provided for their maintenance.
This is the original photograph.
I hope you like it.
I have used a monopod.

Bonjour John,

Here is a nice clear view of the town with a silent, quiet neighbourhood ! Light conditions were not very good but you did well in capturing colours. It really reminds me of XIXth century Great Britain we can see drawings in history books...

Hi John,
The walls and the stone entranceway seem to have a lot of history behind it. I like the way the road streches ahead invitingly into the village. Nice POV with good sharpness

Dag John,

Thanks for sharing....

Hi John
I like the linear perspective, the 3 foreground 'pole' elements, & the distant person in the background, close to the vanishing point. Superb pov, sharpness, & lighting. Well done!

Erg goed werk!

Beautiful through-the-gate perspective obtained in this one, John. The amount of textures from the variety of bricks and stones is amazing, and while it would be easy to oversharpen such a scene I think you managed really well here. Good shot.

Bonsoir John,
Entr馥 interdite tout v馼icule !

Hi John. I like how you set the shot up around the great view through the arch. I like everything about the shot, it's too bad about the overcast sky. Well done John!

A bit desolated this place, but beside that a well made presentation of the city detail. The shadowless light seems good for this compo John.

Very nice photo John. Nice lead in too through the opening to distant parts of the town. I know your camera and lens because I use the very same. Your settings on the camera and the post processing makes this photo absolutely gorgous to view. Thanks for posting.

Hi John,
A well composed shot, rendered with delicate attention to detail from a fine perspective. The natural colours really make this special, and you have achieved a painterly effect without the benefit of a great sky. Well framed and cropped. This is first class work, John and very pleasing.

Hi John, You did very well with the grey light we had most of August. The rendering of the bricks, tiles and paving is quite good, as is the perspective. The man (or is it a woman) add a nice touch of loneliness while giving a scale to the view.

Nicely framed image John. I love the way that the town inside looks like a picture painted on the gate. It seems totally separate from the wall front. The colors and textures are very rich throughout. And the depth with that excellent perspective is very strong. I really like that there happened to be a person in the distance, just one lone person. It adds to the feel that it is a painting instead of something real.

Most of all this picture has a good looking through the gate with excelent DOF, John.
The old gate is "glued" to a more modern building with contemporary architecture's.
Fine clearity and light management.

That entrance gate is ancient, was designed as an arch and made of stones John, the red bricks constructions were built around it
