The Castle of Ooidonk

In the first half of the 17th century (image from Flandria Illustrata -1641)
Kasteel Ooidonk is now privately owned by Count Henry t'Kint de Roodenbeke, eldest son of the late Count Juan t'Kint de Roodenbeke
The family has owned it since 1864 when Henri t'Kint de Roodenbeke bought the castle. The family has expanded the castle without compromising the playful renaissance style. The French architect Cl駑ent Parent (1823-1884) delivered the design and led the works from 1864 to 1875. The interior was renewed and the gardens redesigned. Count t'Kint also had the caretaker's house built and placed the wrought-iron gate of honor with his coat of arms. The interior can be described as a pure neo-Flemish Renaissance style, with the mention of the family chapel in neo-Byzantine style.
The castle was protected as a monument in 1944 [2]. In 1980 some surrounding buildings were also protected and in 1995 the castle domain. Ooidonk Castle has been open to visitors since 1958 from 1 April to 15 September, and the surrounding park (French gardens) can be visited throughout the year. Sometimes openair exhibitions are held on the domain. In 1995, the 400th anniversary of the castle was celebrated by the family. The 150th anniversary of the t'Kint de Roodenbeke family in Ooidonk was also celebrated in June 2014.
Both Henri II t'Kint de Roodenbeke and his son Juan t'Kint de Roodenbeke and his grandson Henry t'Kint de Roodenbeke have made great efforts during the last fifty years for the restoration and renovation of the castle and the entire domain.

Hello John,
Even if this was partly changed in the 19th century most of us non-experts would see this a real, genuine Renaissance castle. It is a magnificent building and it is also well placed near the water, close enough for the towers and upper floors to be very nicely reflected. You took this on a day with the best conditions and managed an excellent photo with very appealing light and colours.

WOW! Dit is een geweldige foto!
Natuurlijk een prachtig kasteel omringd door een mooie natuur.
Schitterende sterke kleuren, goede combinatie van blauw, groen en rood.
Heel goed dat het kasteel niet centraal geplaatst werd in het beeld.
Een sterke compositie en veel diepte met de verschillende horizontale lagen.
De lucht is op zijn mooist in de rechter bovenhoek.

Wat een prachtig zicht op dit kasteel. De kleuren zijn schitterend en zien er vooral heel mooi uit in dit zachte lucht. Het blauwe, rood and groen gaan goed samen. Het water heeft bovendien een paar heel mooie spiegelingen.

this is such a pretty palace. I like its extraordinary style!
I don't remember seeing it before. I like both the style and the lovely orange color.
Of course the setting is very photogenic and you made the perfect use of it here capturing it from across the pond. Fantastic well saturated colors.

The castle is an interesting building, very well positioned in the frame, and exhibiting lovely, warm colours. As a castle, it has a necessary moat, or even a picturesque pond, where the beauty of the building is shown again, as a reflection.

Een schitterend kasteel met prachtige ronde details. In Engeland hadden ze dit rijke kasteel vast gebruikt als de omgeving voor een meeslepende historisch kostuumdrama voor de TV.
