Photographer's Note
"If I survive all of this, I accept whatever punishment she chose for me. Prison... death... didn't matter. Because at least in prison and at least in death, you know, I wouldn't be in f***in' Bruges. But then, like a flash, it came to me. And I realized, maybe that's what hell is: the entire rest of eternity spent in f***in' Bruges."
- Colin Farrell in the 2009 movie "In Bruges" (2009)
---
Well, maybe it isn't that bad. Despite the lousy weather we did enjoy our little trip there. But that does NOT mean we are not counting down time until we can go on a proper trip!
---
Lovely little Bruges ("Brugge" in Dutch, something like "Brhhe" in the local language), the so-called "Venice of the North", is Flanders' most popular tourist destination.
It was the most important town of the region in the Middle Ages, when it was the capital of the County of Flanders, although forever locked in a fierce local rivalry with Ghent (Gent).
Bruges is home to several fine museums, including the Gruuthuuse (the city museum), the Groeningemuseum for arts (mainly paintings) and the Old Hospital of Sint-Jan for history and art too. All these are highly recommended.
Besides that there are many tourist shops offering chocolates, beer and lace. In between shopping and sampling, you can either go on a boat trip in the canals or ride in a horse cart on the cobbled streets of the old city centre.

Hello Benny,
I was initially shocked by the description of Bruges, for I have only visited once but loved it! Of course ... the film!
I like how you have steered away from just the buildings and have given us a beautiful impression of the flowers, the trees and the building, showing how they all combine to create very pleasing scene.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Benny
Brugge is a city in northwestern Belgium. In the early Middle Ages, it developed into a wool-producing city, especially in the early 14th century, as a leadership role in the Hansa Union. It was connected by the North Sea and canals, and shipbuilding, food, chemical, and electronics industries developed.
Was the world's first financial stock system born in Brugge? The Dutch mercantilism 17th century systematic trading system with the East, and the East India Company's stock system The Netherlands was influenced by Brugge?
Prettig weekend.

Dag Benny,
John

Hello Benny,
Contrary to Colin's character, I would imagine spending a longer period of time in Bruges. :)
Its a nice postcard with some nice colours.

Hi Benny
great as always to see you posting. We need as many people as we can here. I remember seeing that movie, and I have to say, I didn't care for it that much. you? Makes me wonder, do locals have a hate on for Bruges as well? just curious. Belgium is very high up on my to-see-list once Covid gets better, and so is this city. A very attractive shot and set up with the white flowers and the old architecture in the bg. looks great to me. cheers

Hi Benny
That's a cheery capture on a brill light of day how the blooming flowers come into play and all leads to the iconic building. Your balance exposure level is seamless coupled by superb contrast to blue sky.

Hi Benny,
I loved that movie! And I watched it again after coming back from Bruges. There was more, at certain point the mafia boss announces his wife, that needs to go to Belgium. She says, "Why would anyone want to go to Belgium?"
Sorry about it, but it was ridiculous.
Beautiful spot here and I didn't have enough time there, having been on a day trip really.
Nice composition with flowery foreground and attractive architecture dressed up in the elegantly shaped trees.
Excellent work,
M

Hallo Benny,
Prachtige lentefoto van een (voor mij) minder bekende plaats in Brugge.
Een uitgebreide bloemenpracht siert de voorgrond terwijl een licht dramatische lucht voor een geweldige achtergrond zorgt.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Benny,
I like the stepped pyramid design of the bg roof, nicely framing the 2 attic windows. Good sharpness and the fg flowers add a splash of colour. Good depth and layering in this image. Tfs!
