Sint-Kwintenskerk from Oostkerke

The Sint-Kwintenskerk with its sturdy, flat tower is the landmark of Oostkerke. Around the year 1100 there was already a Romanesque church here. In 1159 the remains of Saint Guthago were placed here by the bishop of Tournai in a reliquary, after miracles had taken place at his grave. Sint Guthago was a king's son who chose to live as a pilgrim in Flanders. He was buried in Oostkerke.

Hello John,
This is a very beautiful Romanesque church, but it seems so strange to find it in a small village, next to a meadow where cows are grazing. I think I have only seen similar views in old paintings. This slightly distant view was perfectly chosen. It greatly benefits the composition to have the large green meadow between us and the church. It seems to accentuate the beauty of the church. It was a beautiful day in early November with a very good light.

Een heel mooi licht hier, het zachte zonlicht geeft een mooie, warme gloed aan zowel de stompe kerktoren als de vele herfstbomen eromheen. De vaalblauwe wolken zorgen bovendien voor een mooi contrast op de achtergrond. Heel mooie landschapsfoto.

Mooie foto, John. De kerk met die "platte" toren is heel opvallend, de huizen errond doen heel typisch Vlaams aan. Knap gekaderd en mooie kleuren.

That flat tower looks interesting. It almost looks as if it was designed to be highrt, but was never completed. I like the cows grazing peacefully near it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Dag John,
Ik dacht even dat ik de toren van Ransdorp zag, hier vlak bij Amsterdam. Nauwelijks van deze te onderscheiden. Ik doe hem in de workshop. Prachtig zicht over de weilanden naar dit mooie dorp.

Hello John, Lovely view of the rural landscape. Nice church with the rather simple architecture. The big church in a small village. Lovely meadow with the animals grazing. Are they cows? They look a bit strange.

Hello John,

I see this is a photograph from last year. Perhaps your injury has given you an opportunity to revisit your archives and select an excellent photograph that might have been missed.

The church really is a beautiful building and it stands out very well, bathed in sunlight, edged with autumnal trees and with red-roofed buildings, snuggling close by.
The green f/g and grazing cows create a very tranquil setting.
It could easily be a beautiful painting.

Hallo John, that Romanesque church dominates the surrouding countryside. It has a thick tower. Cows are grazing in the pasture located around it. I like the golden light as well as the autumn colors. Good image quality, instructive photo note, regards.

Dag John The pastoral poetry is much evident in plain view of the sheeps feeding near the church, itself being constructed away from the city in a bucolic environment. A flawless picture depiction crowns this beautiful breath of fresh air!

the shapes of the tower looks not so old, maybe because are well kept during the centuries. nice view with this pasture and animals telling about this rural zone.
