Photographer's Note
July 14 a very sunny day, no spectacular clouds to the sky, alone a strong blue sky.
I was on visit in Oostduinkerke a small but lovely village to the Noth Sea, 10 mile of the French borders.
The world-famous shrimp-fishermen on horseback. Oostduinkerke is the only place in the world where shrimpfishing on horseback is applied. At the tourist office you can obtain a time-schedule with dates and hours of the "shrimpfishing on horseback" during the Easter holiday and from June 15 till the September 15.
In fact, this is a duo work, two horses pulling a net behind sight in a form of an open bag and by extension at the end of the drag net on the seabed, it cut shrimp caught, and afterwards cooked and gekuist sold at the price of 1 Euro for a bowl, incredible how many people there to come look it
As with other seafood, shrimp is high in calcium and protein but low in food energy. A shrimp-based meal is also a significant source of cholesterol, from 122 mg to 251 mg per 100 g of shrimp, depending on the method of preparation.
In future I would placing more pictures of this spectacular happen.
You get a second picture with a detail of the fisherman with his horse.

I hope you like it.

Hello John,
A very appealing composition of these fishermen on horseback; quite a novel idea for me. I like how they are strung out diagonally across the frame; makes for a strong composition and compensates for the central placement of the horizon. Colours and clarity are excellent

Hi John,
The diagonal line made by the people and the horses are assets to the composition. The capture of the movement of the wave is a complement tpo the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the horizon. The presence of the people on horses has an effect of scale. The quality of the light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

looks too authentic to be taken in europe john... i must be a retard, never heard of them... beautiful shot with good light and vvid colours... the horses are well placed in the frame... could have been cut a bit more on top to get rid of that tiny bit of cloud on the left, that looks distracting a little, otherwise a great shot my firend...

Hallo John,

Hi John,
Indeed a perculiar way of fishing, that of using horses. This reminded me of my younger days where we used to fish using drag net similar to this except that we did the pulling of the net ourselves. It is tough work but satisfying when seeing the catch. A nice angle to show the whole activity in progress and I equally enjoyed the close up shot. The rumble of the breaking waves can almost be heard here. Well done and very educational!!

Hi John,
Really interesting. I didn't know about it.
In some Portuguese beaches they used oxen to pull small fishing boats; nowadays they use tractors.

Ol John, this perspective is fantastic, looks like the riders of appocalypse. Could be a poster for a cinema. This is kind of an exotic scene for me, something I would expect to see more in Asia than in Belgium. The closer approach in WS is superb and deserves a separate post. Also very good informative note. Congratulations.
best regards,

Hello John,
although the shrimp fishermen of Oostduinkerke are world famous, as you mention in your note, I learned about them and saw them for the first time in your presentations. I like this scene very much, it gives us a glimpse of the extraordinary fishing procedure and makes the most of the fishermen's arrangement, the light, the colours and the wind. The waves create eye-catching patterns in the foreground, there's movement and intensity. Your photo is clear and vivid, I wish it was a film so that I could see more of this fascinating practice. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Dear John,
a traditional fishing method that seems extraordinary
I would have liked a more panoramic frame for comprndre hallage the nets and therefore less sky

Hello John,
What an interesting sight of shrimp catching on horseback! I assume on hot summer days the horses enjoy taking a dip in the ocean. I like the way the horses have lined up in your frame and the cloudless sky.
Regards,
MT
PS. I am looking forward to your fresh photos of Dutch tulip fields.
