Photographer's Note

Ideally located in Sofia center, metro Serdika, close to the old mineral baths, Banya bashi mosque is a brick building built in 1576 and named after the mineral baths. The dome has a diameter of 15 metres, and the monument is the only remaining example in Bulgaria of a domed roof on a cubic base. The Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan was chief architect to the Sultan. Hello Miguel,
The red minaret makes this mosque special. Of course being a work of the great Sinan is also worth noting. The photo has great clarity and sharpness and the people in the street enliven the foreground.

Sofia is a city I'd love to visit someday. Surprised to hear its the only working Mosque in Sofia. From the angle you took the photo it appears it's dominating the entire city landscape, but i'm sure its not :) Fine shot with the clouds and lighting. cheers

Magn凬ica foto con esta mezquita que tiene un buen minarete y una cupula de buen tama, lo que presupone un amplio interior, lastima el moderno edificio tan cercano que rompe un poco el encanto.

Good colour, sharpness and saturation. I didn't see any mosques at all in Sophia when I was there so this is a surprise. I like the warm cold colour contrast between the tan coloured mosque & fg, the red minaret and the blue sky. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Miguel,
we do not get many pictures from Sofia on TE, and frankly never thought there would a mosque in there.
The red bricks built minaret stand out beautifully against the blue sky. Taken the picture from a fair distance to include the immediate surrounding.
