Photographer's Note
There used to be a lethal line separating western from eastern Europe: the iron curtain.
For most among our elder members, the images of the infamous Berlin wall and the border between FRG and GDR are strongly present in their minds. But the German/Czech or Austrian/Czech border was equal, with the only exception that border fortifications were not immediately adjacent to the border itself, but often set back by several hundred yards.
This is the famous double railway station at Bayerisch Eisenstein / Zelezna Ruda-Alzbetin where the border went just through the middle of the long station building, separating east and west.
View from the German side where the railway line was operational, with the German stationmaster's office just 5 metres away from the border.
The Czechoslovak side was inaccessible to the Czech people and neither served nor cared for. Taken on film with Canon A 1, scan from paper print.

Hallo Sven,
Das Foto selbst zeigt, was Chemie und Physik so alten Abzgen antun knnen, mal sehen, was unseren Fotos auf Festplatten in der Zukunft alles widerf臧rt.
Viele Gr゚e

Hello Sven Erich, Indeed, very interesting border through the middle of the station. I have never seen a similar one. Now one can go freely around but I can imagine how it was with the iron curtain. The people from the West were just curious how it was on the other side, the people of the East were dreaming to go. I remember well the borders when travelling through Berlin, or Czech-Austrian in Mikulov. There were always long queues. very good document
Kind regrads Malgo
