Photographer's Note
La Petite Venise
Strasbourg has got Petite France, the town of Colmar, about 65 km south of Strasbourg, has got la Petite Venise (Little Venice). The area is crossed by several canals and has got many half-timbered houses, which used to be owned by butchers, tanners and fish sellers. As you can image, it is pretty popular with tourists.
Colmar is the third-largest city in Alsace and has got just over 130,000 inhabitants. It calls itself the capital of Alsatian wine. The historic centre has survived several wars between France and Germany pretty much unscathed.

Hallo Lars,

Goed foto werk.
Prettige avond,
John

Hello Lars,
This is the perfect complement to Strasbourg, with its canals, timber-framed houses and colourful flower decorations.
You chose the viewpoint well, taking good advantage of the converging lines for perspective and for reflections.
The buildings are so delightful, as from a fairy tale!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Lars,
The flower pots are eye-catching. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings and of the bridge. The quality of the light beautifies the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Lars
An graceful canal scene so much heritage and culture in a place, obviously the eye is pulled into the olde worlde buildings and the lively crowd. The marriage of colour is just superb with excellent clarity and detail throughout. Lovely capture

Dag Lars,

Hi Lars,
Beautiful spot. The houses are so beautiful.
I suppose very much depends on the reason a war is happening.
For example both Germans and French treated these regions as their own and they wanted them to become part of their country so there was no point in damaging its beauty. On the other side, when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, the plan was to exploit and exterminate the Slavic nations, turning them first into slaves and later to exterminate them like Jews. For that reason the plan was to make as big damage to the culture as possible, both sending all Polish university professors in the early transport to Auschwitz and bombing Warsaw old town against all conventions for pure pleasure of destruction and to make of it an example.
That is also why the French-German friendship could resurrect after the war so much faster, there was not much war and destruction in this side of Germany.
Very picturesque spot, excellent capture!

Hi Lars,
Your photo makes me want to visit this beautiful town: canals decorated with flowers, lovely old buildings, green trees and sunny sky. It has it all. A sharp image with excellent depth of field and great composition and colours.

Hello Lars,
Excellent postcard photo, which obeys the rules of thirds and exhibits a lot of things to be observed eg the boat in front of the bridge. On the other hand no body is taking selfies - photographing their own faces - as you used the term. A positive thing. :)
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Lars,
It looks more orderly than what I have seen of Venice. Nice sense of depth.
