On the Pont des Arts, it is tradition for those in love to place a padlock symbolising their love on the bridge - and then throw the key into the Seine. Long let this romantic gesture survive!

I find the concept quite cute... and specially one lock looking directly into the lens, perhaps there are some personal reasons to it :)
In India lot of people will tie threads or handkerchiefs in relgious buildings and religious trees for faith and in hope of their wishes to come true.
Interesting to know how different the people are yet a lot of similarities are there.
