Photographer's Note
Not much more I can say about the Louvre that hasn't already been said. It's the world's greatest collection of art, and a must see. The new visitor centre and entrance makes quite a stark contrast with the traditional facade of the former palace, which caught my eye. After seeing the Da Vinci Code I half expected to see a car chase erupt....
This was taken early in the morning, with nobody around, a rare occurance there. It was also shot on film (Velvia 100), with a 17mm lens which is difficult to use without distortions.

Alvin, was this on a tuesday morning? away from the tourists? on a day full of DaVinci code expectations? It is an awesome capture, the reflection of the morning light on the pool creates a mood different to the one the normal tourist experiences. Very sharp details and great composition.
Cheers,

Hi
I like very much the reflections and the way you framed the picture.
The colours are perfectly saturated, almost reaching the top border of my tolerance :)
Is it your shadow down there? Taking such a nice picture you should think of avoiding it somehow.
Take care

This shot looks really familiar as I watche Da Vinci Code a couple weeks ago.
In being honest, I do have a couple points to make; the image does suffer from a bit of 'keystoning' (where buildings appear to be leaning in towards the centre). This is visible as the horizon (behind the visitor centre is tilted down to the left- but if you were to correct it- the building on left would look to be leaning to the right like the Tower of Piza! I'd be interested to see what could be done in Photoshop CS2 with it... and the other suggestion is to try and include the tops of buildings.
Other then that; the exposure and levels are great, the composition is superb, and I really like the reflections.
Cheers Alvin!

Interesting angle and POV. I agree with Daniel that the top of the building would add to the shot. Excellent colors and resolution.
Of course, the da Vinci code brings your photo to the fore, but this is one of the best posts.

Hi Alvin,
A very familiar and much photographed subject, but you have an amazing POV and composition here, let alone the reflections... Itエs a pity one of the chimneys is cut off, but itエs minor here. The perspective of the Louvre is nicely balanced by the pyramide, creating a triangle in the blue sky, and because the pyramid triangle is also there, this creates a play of shapes.
Good work!

Hi Alvin.
Amasing morning colours deliver the beauty of the louvre. What I don't like so much is that you cut off the main building on the left, which you could have avoided by taken the camera more up which wouldn't destroy the reflection much.
take care, Aleks

Hello Alvin
a great shot ... i like this reflection and that wonderfull contrast between the "yellow Louvre" and that blue sky ... the way you framed shows another contrast between Louvre and the Pyramide (old and modern) ...
A nice POV and a nice shots ... a nice idea of using your F90 and Fuji Velvia ... you get so nice colors

Beautiful photo, Alvin, and a fine use of the wide-angle to fit a lot of detail into this pleasant reflective composition of the contrasting architecture elements at the Louvre. Beautiful tonality brought forward by the morning light. A bit of a pity that the top of the old building is cut, that's where 14 or 15 mm would've come in handy :o) Well done.

Superb lighting and well balanced, with the modernistic structure on the right nicely situated alongside the ancient. I like the great reflections here and the crisp clear look. I am surprised you shot this with Velvia, as I didn't realize you still carried your film camera. A real coup capturing this without people....Well done.

Hi Alvin,
I like here the fine morning light and the clarity of the reflection which the Velvia helped to pull out nicely, I like too the angle that puts the two architectural styles side by side, It's just pity you did not frame a little bit wider and cut the chimney. How do you find these Velvia 100 compared with the discontinued Velvia 50 ?
Have a nice day,

hi Alvin, there's such a huge architectural gap between these two structures, but here they come together so well, because what we concentrate here on are the fantastic colours and this great mirror reflection. plus, i suppose this contrast is what can be considered as an attraction in itself. great shot.

I like your point of view here and the reflections Cormac and am not in the slightest disturbed by any distortion - I like the view of the world wider lenses give - such wonderful lighting - your shadow on the water is subtle enough to work Ok at this size but might have a different sort of impact on a larger print - the complexities to the eye of these two buildings of such different design and eras is interesting - the pyramid takes on a decorative aspect in detail as well as through its overall impact. Nice work
best wishes Kev

Hello Alvin,
Best regards.

Inspired shot, Alvin.
The clarity of light and superb mirror-like reflections give an exciting slant to what must be one of Paris's most photographed landmarks. The stark contrast between the honeyed tones of the old building and the very contemporary glass and steel pyramid, separated by the reflections of both, works brilliantly.
Superb!
